For the SLI LE, there shouldn't be a Jmicron ROM because it has only Intel SATA ports, do you think that you can upgrade that bios to include the latest Intel ROM?

Every BIOS from EVGA for X58 has the JMicron option ROM regardless of whether the board uses it or not.  It is completely pointless and it makes no sense but it is there...I have no idea why .  PM me with your specific request and I can see what I can do but if you are asking whether I can put the newest Intel RAID ROM (10.1.0.1008) it is currently impossible to do...that is until EVGA issues a fix for ROM size limit such as those found on Gigabyte boards.

Oh right.... :/ Does having the Jmicron rom in the bios update for the LE affect performance?

^ Not in and of itself, But it would if haveing it there ment you didn't have room for something that improves performance because it was there.

Dejahn,

Is it also possible to mod the bios blue background color to red?

Thanks.

Red text on a black background would be hot.

Would you mind posting, or pointing me to instructions to make, a bootable CD image for your 78 Bios mod? I don't have a floppy drive and my USB drive is toast.

Unfortunately for the time being the bin method is the only means of flashing the modded bios....

BTW...

I confirm that the new updated mod for the 78 bios is now functioning properly and rocking solid on my 759. I'm even running the AS SSD Benchmark to see if my scores have changed any...will post back shortly with screenshots.

UPDATE:

Bios 77M
These are my SSD's *First Gen Vertex Turbo's in Raid0* after a year and a half of hard use...

Here they are after 8hrs of garbage control.*Leaving my comp idling while in the bios screen*

Finally here is the same array after the bios update.

Bios 77M

Boot time seems to be snappier even though performance is lowered. this is also with the OCZ array and I should be getting my crosair's in today. I will do another bench on a fresh win7 install later today when I get those in

I can try an make one for you as a one off.  Give me a couple of hours and I'll send you a message.  Not sure if I will be able to though but I'll try.

Updated raid an Jmicron ROMs are aboard the modded bios and I don't see how it could void your warranty, and if it did then you could always flash back to an evga bios.

I honestly could not tell you...lol...flash it and just see.  Every system is so different.  It's so easy to flash back if you need to after

With BIOS 78:

A minor increase overall.

Hopefully, if eVGA decides to get the 10.x implemented, a more significant increase will be realized.

Indeed.  There must be significant changes, in both compatibility and to some extent in performance.  The new stuff is full two versions newer.  Those are major changes, not minor maintenance stuff.

So if you don't use the Jmicron ports then why bother?

If you do not use RAID and you do not use JMicron then really you have no reason to flash.  I use both

In regards to warranty, not really, but I would think that if something does go seriously haywire you may need to buy a new pre-flashed BIOS chip, boot, replace with old chip, flash, then reboot after restoring the old chip (hot-flash basically).  The mods do not touch the actual core BIOS code that deal with power delivery, chipset registers, memory initialization, etc., but as always flashing the BIOS is risky.

That is correct.  I have the 770 and since I don't even have that chip (I have the marvell + USB 3.0), the regular 78 update will work for me. :o)

Good news, finally got the usb to be bootable. I needed a bigger flashdrive. I was trying to use a 256mb one, no dice. went to a 2gb flash drive and it worked fine....anyway I upgraded to the new modded bios and I thought I'd share some findings with you all.

These are my SSD's *First Gen Vertex Turbo's in Raid0* after a year and a half of hard use...

Here they are after 8hrs of garbage control.*Leaving my comp idling while in the bios screen*

Finally here is the same array after the bios update.

As you can clearly see I've gained some performance.

Also my WEI score for my SSD's went up from a 7.6 to a 7.8. The 'upgraded' Bios
even shaved 3 seconds off my boot time. cold boot time was  28 seconds now it boots in 25 :-D~

Job well done to the OP. They really made a big difference. I vote for a BR!

Interesting. I have an SSD RAID myself (after much deliberating of whether sacrificing TRIM would be worth it). Does this form of GC'ing work on SF SSDs too? Is it really just as simple as booting my system up, DEL to go into the BIOS, and let my system sit there for 8 hours doing nothing while my RAID'ed SSDs GC themselves? I'm curious to try this :)

Yes it is that easy, and to my knowledge only SandForce OCZ and Corsair based drives support it.

No, I don't think so.  JMicron is just faster in general compared to it's previous old ROM, but not faster than Intel controller.  Also, you won't have any problems with OCZ in AHCI/RAID...don't know what gave you that idea

Nope, nearly all newer ssd's have GC built into FW, it was not nearly as prevalent on first gen ssd's but can really be almost found across the board now

very easy way to use GC whenever you walk away from the puter...again pinched from OCZ forum...

Make a simple Shortcut to LogOff and help out SSD recovery We all know the importance of Garbage Collection for our SSD's right? But Windows Start Menu doesn't help in finding the LogOff when it's time for you to rest, the shutdown button is easier to find which is unfortunate because while you sleep Garbage Collection could be working hard restoring the SSD's performance. So help the little guy out and make a quick access shortcut, place it on your desktop and hit it instead of the Shutdown button when it's time for zzzzz's or any time you're AFK is also good.

The command is: shutdown.exe -l (that's a lower case L)

For the brave who are not worried about accidentally logging off without saving the newly created document then adding the -f switch forces a logoff and is fast!!

shutdown.exe -l -f
-----------------------------------<>-----------------------------------

How to:

First right click on the open desktop and select "New Shortcut" from the context menu

Next copy and paste this command into the location box: %windir%\system32\shutdown.exe -l then select OK

logoff is the same for GC as sitting idle in bios only it's easier to do more often, and we all like easier

here is the whole post..
Make a simple Shortcut to LogOff and help out SSD recovery
We all know the importance of Garbage Collection for our SSD's right? But Windows Start Menu doesn't help in finding the LogOff when it's time for you to rest, the shutdown button is easier to find which is unfortunate because while you sleep Garbage Collection could be working hard restoring the SSD's performance.

Type a name, like: SSD Recovery then select Finish

You might like an attention grabbing icon for the shortcut also, so right click on the newly created shortcut and select "properties" Select also the "Change Icon" button, click "OK on the next notification popup window. Select the "Browse" button in the next window, scroll down to find and select the high quality icon containing file called "imageres.dll" Choose an icon and select OK and OK again.

Finished!

Now clicky on the shortcut to LogOFF for GC to go to work while you're sleeping..
-----------------------------------<>-----------------------------------

Note! for GC to function in a Logged Off state, the Hard Disk power option also needs to be set to "never" under "Turn Off Hard Disk After" from the "Change Advanced Power Settings" Option..
