I'm really hoping they manage to integrate 10.1.0.1008 into the new BIOS...let's wait and see.  I will put my level hat on for now

the new X58 BIOS updates the RAID ROM

To which version is the big elephant in the room...I'm still keeping a reserved stance   I know that there were issues integrating the latest option ROM, but I've also been talking to EVGA so let's see what happens.

Maybe they'll also throw a few other updated OROMs in (AHCI, LAN, JMicron, etc).

Maybe they'll also throw a few other updated OROMs in (AHCI, LAN, JMicron, etc).

I think you may get disappointed on a couple of those...
  • AHCI - has no update, we have the latest Phoenix AHCI option ROM; there is a newer Intel ROM that they can try to integrate but I do not think that moving providers is in the works
  • LAN - only PXE updates are available and can be integrated but are very unlikely as they cause an addressing conflict with JMicron (they could fix it but this is pretty pointless and as such likely very low priority)
JMicron should be, but if it is not I will post updates probably within a few hours following an official release

Here's to hoping however

I know!
Still, maybe the hardware gods will listed to me! I can always go if things go haywire, so it probably makes sense to be nice and hope for the best while I still can.

Well, looks like I don't even have to redo the mods...unless you care about having the highest BIOS number!

Now that this is out, I was hoping that information I got over the weekend was not true...but it was.  Hopefully they will continue to investigate the possibility of integrating newer RAID ROMs despite not having done it now.  Step in the right direction I guess.

I think this sums up my satisfaction level

Update: Sorry to say but no...

The BIOS I provided is still technically more "up to date".

Just speculating in regards to not having enough space to fit the new ROM, perhaps you're not counting temporary space needed in the BIOS memory for device and memory mapping in 16-bit mode before the BIOS can offload that info to system RAM?

Question: I just upgraded and now it's saying my RAID is incompatible? What's up with that? It works just fine in Windows but when I do Ctrl+I to view the RAID setup it says Incompatible in red on all my drives...

Can you give more details what you upgraded to (did you use my or official BIOS and which revision), what is your board, and your setup?  In the meantime, you can just flash to an older official 77 BIOS that uses the old Intel option ROM.

Unless the EVGA BIOS contains a number of features not found on other X58 boards I cannot see this being the case.  Further to this, removing both the JMicron and PXE ROMs does nothing to allow the new Intel RAID ROM from executing which goes to support this claim further.  Also, the ROM is supposed to compress at execution, not inflate, so a 64K or an 84K ROM should not inflate past any limits in any case, especially with all other option ROMs removed.  As was said before, other manufacturers worked around this...EVGA should be able to as well.

Dejanh,

Sorry, I'm using the official release from EVGA which uses the 8.5 version of the Intel RAID ROM.

I'm using an E758-A1. What else do you want/need to know?

Can you also tell me what drives are you RAID-ing, specific model, make, and size?  I will be able to reply to you a bit later, going out for couple of hours now.

I vote Blue Ribbon for dijanh, seeing as how he came up with a SUPERIOR update than EVGA's excuse for one even before they did. It's seriously bad that other mobo manufacturers had this figured out MONTHS ago. Anywho, keep up the good work dijanh!

Bios made my raid 0 unreadable :-( I think that the 78 mod needs some tweaking...back on 77, and its rocking like a champ right now.

this modified bios and the one recently posted by jacob still implement the 8.xxx ones?

Absolutely correct.  I have exhausted my ability to update any further than 8.5.0.1030.  EVGA needs to put some sort of hard fix in the BIOS like Gigabyte and others did to allow option ROMs larger than 64K.  Currently none of the EVGA X58 boards are able to run RAID option ROMs over 64K.  My latest mod simply brings "official changes in 78" with an updated JMicron ROM.
