Dejanh, by chance have you tested the AHCI rom with the old Jmicron rom? After speaking with you I put together a 790i Ultra Bios with an updated Nvidia Raid Rom and updated 1.07.04 Jmicron Rom. After testing a few different revisions I found out that the 1.08.xx series Jmicron Roms weren't compatible, they would only show the drives in the bios if I either had the Nvidia raid disabled (which would make it run as IDE, Nvidia Media Shield raid is either IDE or Raid, which also acts as AHCI) or both NIC ports disabled, since that is the only way to disable the PXE rom from loading on that board. And even then, during post it took a bit longer to scan for the drives on its port, then flashed what it found for a split second before moving on. It came with an older 1.06.xx series Jmicron Rom, but worked fine with any of the newer 1.07.xx Roms. The only difference I really noticed between them all was that all the 1.06 and 1.07 series ones were the exact same size, whereas the 1.08 series was larger. Could it be that the 1.08.xx Jmicron Option Rom is causing some kind of conflict?

That's interesting. Perhaps Intel AHCI ROM is going to work well with old JMicron ROM?

I think we may have problems with the Jmicron 1.08.01 Option Rom. Ive done a decent amount of searching on the net and have seen many links to the 1.08.01 rom in many different modded bios files, but not 1 mention of where it originated from. I just finished speaking with a Jmicron tech and was sent their newest option rom, 1.07.24, it is technically still in testing. They have no 1.08.xx Roms.

Looks like we shouldn't touch JMicron by ourselves and let EVGA update it, then (so we surely get an official version). And rather focus on Intel ACHI ROM and Intel RAID ROM for now, to avoid additional conflicts.

I posted this in the X58 BIOS thread, but just so all info is in one place I will put it here too...
I was just looking at a couple of BIN/ROM components and the overall structure of the EVGA and Gigabyte BIOS. I think that they are using entirely different versions of Phoenix-Award BIOS actually. I think Gigabyte is using a much newer version of the BIOS unless there are multiple, and very different, forks that can be used for BIOS development off of the same base BIOS version. Not sure if what I am saying makes sense, but hopefully it does. Just as a couple of examples, EVGA is using the _ITEM.BIN and _DMI.BIN modules and opens with MODBIN32 2.04.03 from February 2008, but none of the newer Gigabyte BIOS open with this tool nor use any of the modules identified above. _ITEM.BIN organizes all menu entries for EVGA BIOS, but for Gigabyte all of the structure is defined in awardext and awardeyt ROMs. EVGA has those two ROMs as well, but they are not serving the same purpose and are smaller. They are definitely both Phoenix-Award BIOS, but Gigabyte is 99.99% sure using a much newer one than EVGA. This also means that if EVGA wanted to move to the new BIOS they would likely need to rewrite their BIOS
I do hope I am off the mark on the above and that it is just a minor difference between the two BIOS, but for now I am throwing the towel in unless somebody can post some true progress that I can build off of going forward. I've been spending too much of my time on this and do not get paid for any of it (I like giving back to the community though ...that was my only driver to date). It has been though in honesty eating up too much of my time that I really do not have to dedicate to this. I'm not the type to quit so I will be back at this sooner or later for sure, but for now I do need a break
So we can conclude that Gigabyte is the one who is doing "intelligent innovation" instead of EVGA. Oh well, I have been thinking a lot lately; if EVGA cannot simply update a simple ROM in the bios (it is already taking way to long), that leaves me no faith at all in EVGA's future products; seeing as new features and products need great care and attention, I will have to switch brands to something which doesn't compromise. Might I remind EVGA that compromise is for losers? Gigabyte certainly was looking into the future with their excellent deal with Phoenix, while EVGA probably was still busy getting their next-generation products ready to sell... I am still hoping EVGA can set this right, but if not, I am going to look for something else in my future builds, which also includes videocards and other components. Oh and it seems JacobF is more interested in rebuilding his own PC, instead of finding a solution for the outdated EVGA bioses. Check his twitter: http://twitter.com/EVGA_JacobFBah... I am getting sick and tired of this. By the time we get a real bios update WITH a real updated Intel RAID ROM, we will be in 2014 and then nobody will have an X58, let alone remember it. But this will be the same for EVGA if they are keeping this up. Maybe today is the day to move on and go for a different brand like a few others already did. I seriously think EVGA is the next DFI (and DFI was the next Abit). On a sidenote; I wish to thank dejanh for all his efforts!! If someone deserves some respect in here it's him and not EVGA!! EVGA is setting the new standard: " Dumb Innovation"

I would appreciate if you could send me that JMicron option ROM. I will try to integrate it alongside the newest PXE and if it works I will roll that out as a new update. 1.08.01 has been very stable for me however and I have had absolutely no issues with it. It is also very quick at loading. I can tell you though that there is no interaction between the Intel AHCI ROM and Intel RAID ROM and JMicron 1.08.01 that has any effect on any of the functionality of the aforementioned option ROMs. RAID cannot be integrated right now (BIOS limitation that Award needs to solve for EVGA), and Intel AHCI is also very likely in the same boat as RAID. It simply cannot interact with the current BIOS.

Sent you the Jmicron Rom, should be in your email now. I don't think it was an interaction problem causing a conflict, but could it possibly be an issue with running space? After they get uncompressed and ran in memory? Maybe overlapping reserved space because the bios assumed it was of a smaller size? I had the same kind of odd issue when testing a Bios with an updated AWDFLASH.EXE (790i has it included inside the Bios) that I swapped with CBROM. It seemed like it flashed fine, but the graphical representation of the flash seemed odd, the bars on the progress screen only went "almost" to the end, stopping at 2 before every time down every line. It was weird, but it did finish and flash fine or so it seemed. Decided it wasn't worth including just in case it wasn't functioning properly.

I got the ROM. It does appear to be newer than the 1.08.01 ROM actually; however, it also appears to be quite a bit slower during detection during my initial tests. I wonder if the 1.08.01 was something that they had released back in 2009 as an alpha or a beta that somebody got a hold of and then redestributed. I really like the performance of 1.08.01 during boot. I will do more testing with the one you sent. Having said that it does not allow us to use the new PXE still . Same error occurs as with 1.08.01.

Computer Science, CBA) but about 9 years ago I studied some assembly. However, to be honest with you the mods that we are working on here do not require much in the order of assembly knowledge (you only have compiled code anyway and disassembling it does not work that well) so this is mostly pattern matching and HEX editing at its most complicated or simply module swaps using pre-made tools at its simplest. The difficult is that the tools by and large suck and are very outdated and no documentation or standards are available from anyone, not anyone that is willing to share them anyway.

Thats what i figured. I myself would actually like to open my own repair/custom building shop. My target consumer would be the people dell tries to rape for 300 dollars to extend their warranty. I most likely will end up working for some corporation who could care less about me and make me work long hours cleaning porn out of the CEO PC. By the way great work on the BIOS i haven't used them myself yet because i hate flashing my BIOS with the not so great electrical wiring i have in my apartment. Ran a new breaker and wires but PC still pulls a ton of juice think i need a bigger breaker probably should have used a 20amp instead of 15.

Crusheddream Thats what i figured. Flash ASAP! Dejanh has done great things here

Dude, I don't know how old you are - but this is pretty simple and if you think you need to go to class to use a tool found freely on the net you've got other things to worry about! I like your aspirations of cleaning out porn from your CEO's PC though lmao He was nice enough to send me a link via PM that had a good writeup that listed the commands to release (it can take a bit of digging around through google), and re-add the different option roms but it's as simple as typing a line in a command prompt as long as you understand/know the proper syntax for doing so. I'm pretty sure you don't need to install a new breaker to flash your bios - hopefully you don't open up a shop bud lol you might suggest another few years of school to learn how to Flash a bios with available tools

Alright, so I have produced a more customized update for the BIOS and want to see how many people would be interested. The changes included are listed below: - Updated Intel AHCI ROM, v1.20E (replaces Phoenix AHCI ROM v1.06.70); compatibility update; new AHCI ROM should provide better compatibility with various SSD in the market
- Updated JMicron ROM, v1.07.24 released in 2010 (replaces v1.08.01 unofficial ROM released in 2009)
- Updated Realtek PXE ROM, v2.39 (replaces v2.28)
- Removed the AHCI option from the BIOS (see notes below)
By default the EVGA X58 BIOS is unable to interact properly with the Intel AHCI ROM v1.20E. However, if the AHCI ROM is invoked through the Intel RAID ROM it works correctly. Therefore, I removed the AHCI option from the BIOS to force the user to use RAID even when using non-RAIDed drives. This will result in the AHCI BIOS being invoked for any drives that are not part of a RAID array while still allowing you to use RAID if/when needed. Simply put, using RAID to control drives will ensure that any non-RAID drives default to using AHCI and any RAID drives to use RAID. If anyone is interested in this version of the BIOS please let me know. I am currently running this with no issues. Keep in mind that as far as any unofficial updates are concerned this will probably be as good as it will get without EVGA coming up with a newer BIOS version that is able to better support various option ROMs, especially larger RAID ROMs and Intel AHCI ROMs.

I am confused by the Jmicron BIOS. Is there difference between the 1.08.01 and the 1.07.24? I'd be happy to give it a shot.

rafale I am confused by the Jmicron BIOS. Is there difference between the 1.08.01 and the 1.07.24? I'd be happy to give it a shot. 1.08.01 is unofficial, released sometime in 2009 by an unknown source. 1.07.24 is official, released in 2010 by JMicron. Considering that 1.07.24 is actually newer than 1.08.01 (ignore the version numbers) and official I have opted for using it over the physically older unofficial version. The rest of the changes bring the BIOS in line with the 78N changes published a few days ago but remove the AHCI functionality as it is bundled with RAID and initialized by RAID when RAID is specified in the BIOS. Edit: Sent you a PM with the link to the BIOS modded for E760.
