Why can I run two different 970s in SLI just fine...

Okay a week or so ago I posted about buying a second 970 (http://forums.evga.com/Back-plate-for-970-SSC-ACX-20-compatible-m2336298.aspx), the new model 3975-KR to pair up with my older 1972-KR and asking if I could get a back plate for it (thanks again for the answers). However, I have had more than one person tell me that I cannot successfully SLI certain 970s, and I've already seen the FAQ here (http://www.evga.com/support/faq/afmmain.aspx?faqid=59534) stating so.

Now, my question is why am I running SLI just fine between these two cards? Is it a fluke? Is it just my particular build combo? I don't understand the engineering behind why they would not work, but some people just flat do not believe me. Attached is a Heaven 4.0 desktop screenshot capture comparison with single and SLI enabled (single being the newer card, card #1). In the GPU-Z windows the left card is the #1 card and the right card. I'm scratching my head here.

Edit: apologies for the small screenshot but it's the smallest file I could upload in JPEG format.

Did you download the work around software (don't recall the name)? Are you sure they have original factory BIOS (call EVGA and reinstall).

Maybe they stopped disallowing it in newer cards?

I did nothing special. All I did was drop that second card in (I switched card slots actually and put the new card in the top slot as seen in my photo in the link to my other post), update to the latest at the time 350.12 drivers (right before 352.86 came out which I have since updated with) with a clean install (was running 347.88 with the solo card), set everything up in the Nvidia profile, and away I went. I bought the card from my local MicroCenter a week and a half ago. The original card is running the same BIOS it came with when bought from NewEgg last September.

See I don't get what it is about them that is suppose to make them un-SLI-able

Wonder what EVGA has to say about this.
