Does northbridge (NB) get too hot on this motherboard ? What is the safe & recommended  temperature range ?

I dunno about the FTW3 but on my X58 SLI the northbridge runs between 60 - 65c when the system is 100% loaded. I always have folding@home running on the CPU and Video Cards all day and night except when I game.

As designed , With stock cooling, the CPU fan forces more air across the NB fins, so you usualy don't have temp issues, IF you replace the stock cooler with anything that shifts the air flow away from the cooler , your temps go up, I have seen posts from a EVGA Tech that said NB temps could reach 100, but I don't let mine get that high, at stock my temps were mid to low 30's, after cooler replacment mid 70's after adding a 40mm fan, 65. on a 760, I assume this info would also apply to a FTW3

I will be getting my MB and other parts next week.  I am a bit concerned now as I am planning to use  ECO-R120 on my CPU. There wont be a CPU fan to force air on the NB fins.

Is there room to install a 40mm fan on FTW3's NB?

ideal temps 55-65c under load safe temps 65-70c under full load you really do not want to be 75-80c plus. There is room but not much to install a small fan.  As for it getting too hot not sure do not own one but with its heatsink it should cool fine

There are a # of options open to you, a side panel fan can direct air to the area with a custom baffle, or shield, Antic makes a spot cool http://www.xsreviews.co.uk/reviews/misc-coolers/antec-spot-cool/ which is a fan on a adjustable wand. Fans come in a large vireaty of shapes and sizes, I've even seen people use unused memory coolers, or stock CPU coolers to do the job, Your ingenuity, and mod skills, as well as what you will accept as far as rigged look verses stock look will determine what you do, Assemble an test first, you may be worried about nothing, you can decide latter. May give yo a good excuse to walk around best buy, Microcenter, or whatever your favorite PC shop is. I have 2 (40mm fans) tie strapped to the heat pipes on a high rise CPU air cooler, I would post a pic, but since they are under, and hidden by the cooler, you would see nothing.

What utility I can use to monitor NB & SB temperatures under stress? I am running Windows7 64bit on a  i7 960.

    Thanks in advance

I am not sure there is one that will read the NB temp on the FTW3 yet.
Everest Ultimate did on my 758 A1 board, but did not recognize properly and read the NB temp on this FTW3 768 board. Don't know if there is an udpated beta of Everest out yet that will read the NB temp or not.

HW Monitor and Eleet will read the Vreg temp.

Ok everything is installed and running fine.  Here are some Photos . I have not done any stress test.

Could someone please check these voltages and temps (taken at idle state) and let me know if everything is ok.
