Next company to go under. They're going to have to pay people to buy the note 8 when it comes out - Who has any trust in Samsung now because of their failed products? When a company fails that bad, they usually go under or it takes them an arm and a leg to come back out.

iPhones have been catching fire too and I don't hear much about their sales dwindling.

companies as big and diverse as Samsung do not go out of business over a couple problem products. But profits do get damaged in the short term. They also seem to have an ongoing issue with their monitors and TV with random blackouts. I have been working with their support team for awhile now. No fix in site. Is making me think a lot about ASUS or LG for my next phone and screen.

I don't buy new phones (or technology for that matter). I buy right after the next gen releases because by then the price drops or I can get a used one that's being unloaded. That said I would buy a Note 8 or whatever it is without being paid. I've got a Samsung fridge, microwave, 2x TVs, and 3x SSDs all without issue in-fact my fridge is the best thing I've ever used with it's linear compressor. Not to mention my wife and I have a Note 5 and GS6e phone that also work flawlessly. I used to have an LG washer and it exploded - and the wife had a Nexus 5X that died from bootlooping - just like a good 3 generations of their phones have done. 1080/1070 VRMs are exploding. Any company can make a bad product here and there - it happens. Toyota actually killed multiple people with their accelerator issue AND lied to the public about it but I see plenty of new Toyota vehicles still being sold... I wouldn't buy one because they're plain and fugly but that's not related to the recall. Also many of the other automakers have had major recalls recently and I don't see car new car sales slowing directly related to these issues either. If people will continue to spend tens of thousands of dollars on these vehicle brands after mass recalls - to think this will have any real impact on Samsung as a company is a stretch. These issues with an $800 device will be easily forgotten in the next year.

It's a shame really, because up until now I have found most Samsung products to be extremely good. They've had a bad year and certainly some heads will roll in the QA/design area. Total speculation, but I'm guessing it's some young fresh exec who has come up through the ranks and tried to make a name for themselves by cutting costs and increasing the short term profit margin at the expense of quality and long term performance of the company. I've seen this in other corporations first hand where these young fast-track execs make decisions that appear on the surface to be good to the C-level corporate elite, but everyone below knows the decisions are risky if not completely bad, but it's not until many months later that the adverse results start to hit home, by which time said young exec has already moved on to bigger and better things based on his or her initial claim of success. Unfortunately it can happen over and over again - some C-levels just don't learn. I hope Samsung don't fall down that hole, assuming they survive... they're a huge company though, but this will hurt them for a while.

If that is the real story behind it, you can bet any money that person either A) got demoted or B) doesn't have a job now.

As a result of Samsung's problems I believe you'll see the Galaxy 8 launch sooner than expected.

Just waiting for their 70"ku6300 to go on sale this Friday at Costco. http://www.rtings.com/tv/reviews/samsung/ku6300They say it's a good all around 70" 4k for the price. Was considering a LG but they said that while they make some of the best when it comes to their OLED's they don't recommend their lower cost models. Thought about getting a Vizio but the reviews for their Smartcast app are not good and if I decide to drop Dish I would need some kind of a tuner for a OTA antenna. I've been satisfied with 3 Samsung monitors, BlueRay player and my Galaxy S5. Made a comment to the salesman at Costco that I was OK with getting a Samsung TV since it has no battery but it went right over his head.

We have a 46" Samsung smartTV, not sure of the model offhand although it was expensive (>$1,000), but it has a beautiful crisp picture. Most people who visit make comments that it's one of the best pictures they've seen on a TV. I purchased it from Sears at about 9pm on a Friday night, the next day they put the 51" model on sale for the same price... I was so annoyed, but I had already ditched the packaging and they wouldn't swap it. Still very happy with the product itself, and will continue shopping Samsung for TV - we're thinking of putting the 46" in a bedroom and getting a bigger one for the living room btw, so it will almost definitely be a Samsung. Hopefully Samsung will start discounting them because of all the negative publicity with the phones and now washing machines self destructing..

Let's not forget the whole Fermi house fire era. Every company has their peaks and their valleys. This is (probably) just a valley.

Samsung washing machines are catching fire too. I bet it's due to Samsung using lower quality parts. The whole industry is racing to who can make appliances the cheapest.
