I was testing a higher bus speed with turbo off.  After a while running an app that takes up 99% CPU, windows froze.  After restarting by depressing the power switch, windows instantly crashed with an 0x000009c error, stating that windows will shut down to prevent damage.

I suspect this indicates the need for more vcore, but can't find this error code in the evga voltage guide.

Please advise.

Thanks

only one way to find out. up the vcore a bit and see if the error disapears.

    stop code 9c
    a goggle search

    0x0000009C: MACHINE_CHECK_EXCEPTION

This is a hardware issue: an unrecoverable hardware error has occurred. The parameters have different meanings depending on what type of CPU you have but, while diagnostic, rarely lead to a clear solution. Most commonly it results from overheating, from failed hardware (RAM, CPU, hardware bus, power supply, etc.), or from pushing hardware beyond its capabilities (e.g., overclocking a CPU).

9c is vcore. You need to increase. 9c will turn to 101 as you increase. When 101s stop showing up then you'll be pretty well dialed in.

I have wrestled for months with this problem. I have changed almost everything in my system but nothing seemed to help. Finally I decided to pick up a vacuum cleaner/hoover and sucked all the dust that accumulated in the fans in my system and since then I have gone 14 days without "a Machine_Check_Exception". My honest advice to anybody with such a blue/red/black or any colour screen of death is, first of all, to pick up the vacuum cleaner before changing things in your system.

Static electricity BIG TIME (I'd forgotten about that). Use canned air!
