I have been running an EVGA GTX 465 in my rig for almost six years. I am not a gamer, so this card far exceeds my needs. I do, however, like movies over my PC. Recently, I have considered going to a 4K resolution monitor. However, this chip (EVGA GTX 465) will not support 4K. It will, however, support a 2560 x 1440 resolution monitor and that is the other option. I can get a 32" for the price of a 4K 28", but it wouldn't be much sharper than 1920 x 1080 resolution is on my current 25" monitor.
I cannot see putting a brand new graphics card in a six year old PC. I like my EVGA graphics card. I have been told that I need to move to at least a GTX 7 Series to support 4K. It has been a bulletproof performer for almost 6 years, so I want to stick with the brand. Besides, eBay is silly with them.
Is there anything else I need to understand before buying a used EVGA 7 Series Card that will support 4K? Will it fit in my current PCI slot, any changes that I would need to make by downloading different drivers, HDMI connections, etc...? I doubt that it would just be plug-and-play, but I do not know.
Am I looking for unnecessary trouble? Perhaps, I should just wait until I do my next build in a year or two. There is always TV for movies until then
