Tired of fighting with titles not supporting surround , driver issues with it and such . Actually I got some spare cash from selling a trailer to one of my nephews.... So I ordered a 4K 28" monitor from Monoprice.com for $349.99 . Have to mount it on my multi-monitor stand since the reviews all say the stand sucks . Gonna give that 980ti a workout .
Edit : I SWEAR this is my last upgrade ... until the 980tis come down in price ...

    Congrats!!!!!

I was on the fence for awhile between 4k and Ultrawide. I pulled the trigger with a Dell 34" UW and I love it. But.....some games don't support it...like Starcraft 2, Witcher 2, and some others. However, the newer games seem to be "ok" with the UW res. There still is a part of me that wants a beautiful 4K, but I would get an UW again if given the choice. I think in the next couple of years, we will get the marriage of both! :)

I've had about ultra wide  that I can handle movieman , lol ! 5760x1080 was wide enough . I saw the LG  ones on special right now on the 'egg , but 4K lured me in (and a 980ti SC) . I also have had such bad luck with LG products I shy away from their products . Hope I'll have it by Friday .  Then I'll have 3 spare monitors ... hmm , put them on my 960 2gb sli setup . Talk about overkill !

The 4k upgrade is a very nice one, even going back to using a 2560x1440 monitor, I just can't stand the loss in sharpness, downside is of course it takes a lot more gpu power, but if you've been running 1080p surround, it should be a huge jump, but it will be more demanding.

I'm still waiting for pascal and hoping it'll be able to drive 4k a bit better, I currently have 3 GTX 980s and given the nature of 3 way sli (and to a lesser degree 2 way) and it's scaling it's not able to max out everything. I'll likely get two top end non-titan Pascals when they come out in order to drive the monitor (at which point I'll have 3 GTX 980s to sell, and hopefully get close to not losing much for the upgrade)

I've just about given up on sli . Lack of new games that support it , nvidia ignores it (like surround) and cost . I realise in order to run all the bells and whistles in 4k one card won't do it but sli just doesn't scales as well as it use to . Nvidia's own drivers are hurting performance . I remember when I had 3 470s I would never need to upgrade cards again . NOT ! They did keep me warm though . This WILL be my last monitor upgrade for me , unless something dies out on me .

I went to 4k several months ago, and love it.  My single 980ti will play FO4 at between 40 and 60fps.  I'm pretty sure this will also be my last monitor upgrade.

Good price for that monitor there . I hope their customer service on monitors are better than their Blu-ray division . A nightmare dealing with them . A S. Korean company using India for "tech support " (I use that term loosely) lol !
     Edit : I found that monitor , you do realize that's a reconditioned one , right ?

I'm hoping the same . Running out of things to sell to pay for tech . Wife mentioned a few body parts I could sell . I'll pass on her idea...

I debated 4k thoroughly. My boss has 4k and I watched him game on it a LOT. 6-8hrs daily if not more. I talked him into the Rog Swift 2k 1440 monitor and its SO much better. 4k is still a bit early I think. Once we get 8gb+ single card gpu's I think its going to be better.

I just want to check out 4k and for $300 vs $600 I'll give it a shot, want to compare it to 2k 27" Crossover QHD .
They also have an extended warranty for $45 if I want to keep it.

Nice - congrats!  I would love to do this but then you kind of get shoe-horned into the track of buying the super high-end (read: $$$$) cards to push those pixels at such high resolutions, unless you are doing that already then more power to ya!  I'm still clinging onto my X58-based system with a 980X Extreme (Gulftown) and a lowly Asus GTX680 ROG - gaming on a 1920x1200 monitor. :P

It does pretty well in games at 1920x1200, I don't really have to lower too much detail at that native resolution.  I do miss out on some power savings and efficiency-per-watt, but whatevs!  I don't have native (Intel-based) USB 3.0 or SATA3 - this board has support but only via third party chips so performance isn't great in those areas either.

I'm going to move my surround setup to the Gateway that currently has the 3D monitor on it . Too bad the factory bios does not allow overclocking . I installed my Corsair H80 watercooler on it awhile back & it needs the workout !

my understanding is the X is simply double the vram and all else is VERY VERY similar. Not sure the cost is worth that minimal difference.

Monitor finally arrived today , late afternoon ! 4k goodness thru the 2.0 (supplied w/monitor) hdmi cable @ 60hz . Now I have to get use to one monitor all over again . Noticed an weird issue though . I cannot open file explorer or the control panel . Monitor will just flicker as if it wants to open it but it doesn't happen . Been googling w/no answer yet . I did try BL2 , just changed the resolution to match the monitor & all is good (so far) . Solid 60 fps in most areas except for the usual slowdowns in certain areas . Still have those driver errors in the event viewer though . Edit: I figured out the file explorer issue , I had to lower the display's text setting back to 150% . I raised it to 175% to see things better but...

The biggest challenge for me is steam.  If I'm playing a game in Steam and I get a notification, it's almost too small to read unless I get real close to the screen.

I almost went 4K but decided that I would do 1440P with a higher rate. It is nice and I love the extra desktop real estate and the details in games are very nice but my favorite thing is that there is no more screen tearing. I forgot how bad I hated that till I worked on someones computer.
On a side note, I sure wish they would come out with a lower end card like a 700 series card that may not play games good but would at least have a 2.0 HDMI out for watching movies in 4k @ 60hz

Well I finally got my replacement monitor in Tuesday morning , almost a full week late  . The power switch on this one and it comes out of sleep w/o having to disconnect & reconnect the hdmi cable . The 361.75 driver was also causing black screens on it & my surround setup . All is good now , they even gave me a store credit of $35.00 for my troubles !
