Well I don't know about others but I live on the Gulf Coast.
Its already starting to get hot here. I been having to run my 2 AC's
in my shop where all my rigs are just to keep them cool in day hours.
At night I can drop to one AC, but I will have to start shutting down rigs very soon.
Simply because I can not afford what it will cost to keep all this running.
My power bill reaches $500 to $600 a month in the summer time if I leave it all running sometimes more.
Sorry guys, but soon my folding will drop pretty low.
time for lots and lots of dry ice! ha! That's nuts! I freak when my power bill spikes above 60$ a month.. thats usually my cut off point for folding :(

This is going to be a long one. Sorry. Right now, I'm seeing a 10k ppd drop because of more new workunits being released to the pool. Project 7800 series which have a completion deadline of 25 days, takes 5 days on my e6300 slaves. Frankly, I think these massive work units are our problem with our PPD output. They just take too long to do and when we want to game, we pause them (and sometimes forget to unpause when finished). Next is GPU2 folders. Many of us are running old cards. Great! Every bit helps, but you're stuck doing WU's that will NEVER score above 400 pts per unit. Sure you can do 10 of them in a day, but thats still only 4000 PPD. They're good, low-power buffer cards for filling in the gaps when the SMP's dont complete fast enough. But this doesnt stop here. Hardware you say? Intel has somewhat been changing their focus to businesses because of the economy. Why churn out things the common man cant afford and be unable recoup the RnD on it? AMD's already rocking the market with 6/8/12/16 core dies for consumer products. Intel is holding back its consumer equivalents for an opportune time. If you bleed blue and want density, shell out for Xeon E5/7's. If you want a cheap bigadv rig, get AMD. Its all a matter of, how much YOU are willing to spend toward the cause. This brings me to my final point(s). - If you're only in it for the money, you should evaluate and change your focus. The 10$/mo to assist in purchase of harware is nice, but that shouldnt be the only reason you fold.
- If you're only in it for the competition, its good to see that folks derive some sort of joy in achieving a goal. Ultimately, the goal should be saving lives, and the betterment of mankind.
I've run into a brick wall with what else to say.

I know what you mean. Ive been inundated by what Ive deemed Double-Proc (Double Processor) WU's. Which are 2-part Work Units. Ive found they wont send the results till each piece is complete. This slows down my PPD big time.
On top of that I have Gamer kids that like to shut off my client so they can game-on. I should start using my PS3 while they are on the pcs lol

We're not really folding worse from a historical standpoint. [H] is simply massively upping their output. Hence 2 choices...
1) keep up with them through recruiting or current members kick it up a notch.
2) hope [H] is doing a temporary thingy or watch them go by us.
It's simple. But personally, I'm not worried. We'll be fine.

^^ I agree with this statement. Teams grow and shrink all the time, its normal. Its the supporters that keep it going and if your on the forums, your a supporter! So go out there and Fold and ... that one word, to your hearts content! In the end its for that one reason that made us start in the first place, a cure.

the lack of folding capability for the 680's and 7970's will definetley hurt us. most enthusiest on this forum are runnign left and right trying to get 680s then they cant even fold on em
summer time will also means lower points
it is what it is evga keeping their last year promo same as this year is best they could do for us honnestly

I thought the reason was Hard was a more CPU heavy group and we were a more GPU heavy group. This past month, my CPU really has not changed much, but my gpu has droped hard due to the new 7xxx WU with the 20000 atoms.
That and people jumping to the 680 so soon, along with not attracting very many new members.

Yes it is oc'ed a little. This is just a work around to get 680's folding. My cards do not fold at 99% like normal, they bounce around 96% and 97%. Hopefully they come out with clients for the 680's that do better. Also the 680 isn't sucking up near as much electricity as your 480 is.

Well, I see that in the past 30 days we are at a new low for yesterday dropping down to just over 19M. As soon as my 980X is done with the WCG WU's it is running, I'm gonna fire that Rig back up for Folding. Hopefully can still snag some 6903 Bigadvs and try to help out our numbers a little bit. With CC 2012 possibly around the corner, I need to warm-up the 980X anyway...  Go Apes!!!

I am folding on 2 GTX 590's and each GPU is only running at 87% max load.
I folding with -bigadv and im getting about 110k PPD. Is there any way to get my GPU's to fold anywhere in high 90's?

The load is based on the core and the workunit itself. Sorry, there is nothing we can do to infulence it other than OC/UC. I am CPU heavy with only a 250, an ION2 and 460 SSC. The 460's being used less now at home due to the early summer heat.

We have been working to try and catch up and in time pass you. It has been a long time coming.
The shelf where the #1 crown used to sit has gotten quite dusty. We are going to make an honest go at taking it back.

I'm all for "honorable" intentions. I also commend [H] on their immense movement. I just hope "both" of us can keep this in perspective and remember that "our" larger goal is much bigger than our individual team contributions............. Game ON. I find it envigorating to be looking at a battle for the crown. Good luck to you all at [H]........ I have to admit though that I'm hoping for the old "not quite enough luck" thingy.
