I am very glad you are giving your employees 2 days off for Thanksgiving. I just wish the rest of the country would follow. I am boycotting all stores on Thanksgiving and the day after myself. A little less greed in this world is a very good thing.

There are arguments for and against this. Although it would be nice to be closed on Thanksgiving so employees can have time off the store loses money for each day they are closed and that amount lost is not a little bit. Secondly there are families who work quit a bit sometimes intermittently on a weekend so when they have a chance to be able to shop on a day off that is also good for them.

The quest for money is not more urgent than family. Thanksgiving and Christmas Eve/Day should be mandatory holidays where no bussiness is allowed to be open period the end.

I have to take the other point of view, just because.

Why do people get all up in a tizzy over "Retail" workers working on Thanksgiving.
Police, firemen, maintenance workers, cab drivers, elevator operators and repair workers, nurses, doctors, ambulance drivers, EMS, gas station,  and a whole host of others work on holidays.
When I worked at IBM I had to work all weekend every holiday weekend. That was when we were able to take down the raised floors and to maintenance and repairs.
People who work holidays most often get paid double and triple time with other days off for compensation.

Why are "Retail" workers so special that get you all up in a tizzy.....

Also for got to mention when I was in the field doing HVAC, you had no heat on Christmas day, I came over to fix your heat.
New years day, yup I was out working. Snow storm on new years day. Yes in deed, 3am , I answered the call unlike some others we know of.
Just like the plumbers came on the holiday when your pipe froze and burst.
The linesmen are out working when the tree fell on the powerline. The electrician was there when sparks came out of the plug.

I guess our little special snowflakes think working on a holiday is to much to bear.

Wow Bill you nailed it big time! I dont know why people get worked up either. Now days in America most people need the extra money because almost everyone is in debt in some way or fashion. Also most Americans dont even have enough funds to cover their butts in case of a emergency rises because majority are living pay check to pay check. But yeah trades men/women don't get enough credit for what they do. They truly are the backbone of society. I always appreciated that show Dirty Jobs lol.

we employees at Walmart get Christmas day off. the problem is not greed but all stores are super competitive this time of year. this is the one time of the year that stores show an increase major increase in sales hence the name Black Friday. its one day your company really sees an increase in sales and profit. so the retail stores make it two days now Thursday and Friday.

Dont know where you work at OP, but i always had a 2 day off in every job i worked for

Those who abuse power, are nothing but scumbags!
The challenge of power is how to use it and not abuse it. When you abuse it, it reverses on you and it hurts you.The abuse of power that seems to create the most unhappiness is when a person uses personal power to get ahead without regards to the welfare of others, people are obsessed with it. You can take a nice person and turn them into a slob, into an insane being, craving power, destroying anything that stands in their way.

I think what Candle is trying to say is that Christmas and Thanksgiving have been nothing more than a giant news ad for people to go out blow their hard earned savings because your media has created that picture. They have fabricated major holidays to go spend spend spend spend spend spend money. No wonder this country is flat broke, $20 trillion in debt and the media tells us we have to spend spend spend spend spend on holidays, if not thousands of dollars, because the media tells us to. We're all sheep in this country. I agree with Candle, he's right 100%.

This is why I mostly hate Christmas. It's not what it used to be 100 years ago. Your government has the holidays spewing about money, and that's all it's about, spending money to buy items for people, because you "have to".

And to end it... Thanksgiving... Oh I love this. More liberal nonsense... People claiming that it's about being "thankful". No, dead wrong. Thanksgiving is about the gathering, gathering with your friends and family, showing your love for them by having a gathering with a feast; you should be thankful all year round.

$85 for a turkey? Who's offering the "thanks" and "giving" now? Your store giving you the "thanks", and you giving them the money.

Liberal nonsense? What the hay are you talking about? My god you even bring politics into Christmas and Thanksgiving.
The national debt has nothing to do with what we spend on Christmas.
No one says you have to buy anyone anything. If you do not have the money, do a secret Santa and put a 20$ limit on the gift. Draw names out of a hat.
85$ for a turkey? Where do you live, turkey is a couple dollars a pound, 15 - 17lb turkey should cost 99 cents a poud I just looked at an ad in the paper.
85$ would be an eighty five pound bird. That's birdzilla for gods sake.
    Seriously?

You missed my point.. There is more we should be worried about than spending more than we can afford on Holidays. My bad, I used the wrong word describing "liberal nonsense". My fault entirely. No, it wasn't 85lb. I live in Indiana, near Chicago.
