Reminds me of good ol' 419eater :P love reading that stuff! :D

Do the trade at a bank. My friend sold a laptop on Craigslist and agreed to meet in a parking lot. The guy attacked him with a hammer and made off with the laptop.

Similar thing happened here before... some stupid lady got dragged by a car cuz the "buyer" grabbed the laptop she was sellin and made a run for it. She chased after him and hung onto his car, ended up getting dragged and injured. You don't meet up with someone on CL to buy or sell in the middle of an empty parking lot at 3am for that reason... lol

The library is fine, but banks are everywhere here. They have cameras and security, and if they want to pay by check I can get a manager to advise and inspect.

A hammer's better than a Hummer.  Does at least a little less damage.

you can kill with a hammer intentionally, but a hummer can kill accidentally, I guess.

I didn't want to tell him he was a moron for agreeing to that location, I think he figured it out when he was in the hospital.

I remember when I was selling a laptop on Fleabay years ago.  As you know, scammers love them damn things.  Well the sale closes to an international buyer even though I said "only ship to US".
Well this guy did a pretty bad scam job, sending three emails together.  One being a very bad forgery of a Paypal email, instructing me to send the laptop immediately since the funds is being held by an escrow service.
The second was the "buyer" who thanked me for my purchase (huh?) and instructed me to send the laptop.
The third was a heated email demanding to know why I had not sent the laptop yet.
All sent at the same time.
Well I was pretty pissed that I had to deal with this obvious fake and was about to send an email to tell this trash where and how....
Then I remembered that 419 website with the people that mess wit hthe scammers and so I wanted to do the same.
So I sent an apology to the guy and told him it would be sent out the next day.  I then emptied my 3 cats' litter box into a box, put it in another one with an old cutting board to give it the right heft, and marked the value on the package for the sale, $450.
The scammer(s) place was in england so they paid through the nose (charged a fee for the value of the package) for a box full of cat poop and a stained wooden board.
Totally was worth the shipping cost.

Sounds like something I'd do to someone trying to scam me.

Box within a box and I sealed it with a mile of tape.  I wanted to make sure that if they opened the first box it would pass inspection.  The second, well, I was hoping it would not get that far and it did not.  I watched the tracking info and it was claimed.  lol
