I decided it was time to upgrade my graphics card, stopped by Microcenter and picked up an EVGA GTX 970. They threw in some stickers, a case badge, and a sweet poster. The 970 feels incredibly light weight compared to my 570, I think it's because the shroud is not as thick. Otherwise same EVGA quality here. Now to test it out...

Did you happen to see if any of the ACX 2.0 cards were there? Deciding if I should keep hitting refresh all weekend, or go check out my local Fry's or Microcenter. I think some of those models just may not be out yet.

I thought they were all ACX 2.0? The box just says ACX cooler and it was the only model GTX 970 they had.

    Backplate ?

No backplate on this one. I think only the GTX 980 has the backplate for now.

    Awesome!

And unfortunately not all 970's will be ACX 2.0, I'm pretty sure the step-up for mine is just like yours.

Do you have a Kill-A-Watt by chance? Its not important or anything but I really liked it when I switched to a new PSU in a old build, and it lowered my load by 70W or so. Going from a 570 to this I can imagine something like 80W drop in power usage or more, and getting all the power of my 780ti. Or pretty darn close I'd say!

I will either find a way, or make one.

No, they are all not ACX 2.0. The 970's has both 1.0 and 2.0 to chose from. We have yet to see any ACX 2.0 become available. Yours looks to be the 1.0 variant. Very nice upgrade none-the-less!!!

Nice!  I was out and about today but didn't think to stop by MC to see if they had them in stock.  In the past, they have usually more miss than hit on having high-end GPUs on launch day.  Got a pair of EVGA 980s coming from Newegg though, should have them on Monday. :)

I think you can get the backplates on those 970s after registering them though, pretty sure one of the reviews mentioned something about that.  What's with the sticker price though?  That looks like $549.99, price mistake on the box?

Yeah I think they slapped a GTX 980 sticker on it. Actual price was $339.99 since it's the SC model. There was a guy in front of me that bought 4 GTX 980's (yes thats over $2000 right there). I will look into the backplate, that would be cool.

Did you have any issues with the driver install?

I just picked up the same model and it's giving me that annoying code 43 in device manager

When switching graphics cards it's always a good idea to wipe the old driver and install the new driver before you install the new card. Make sure you choose clean install on the drive setup. I had to reboot after installing the new card because it had to configure the settings or something. So if it's giving you issues wipe your Nvidia drivers, reboot in safe mode, and install the new driver.

Thanks for that bit of information. How do I uninstall the current driver? When in control panel, there is a list of drivers it installs(physx, 3D, etc.). Do I have to do it in any particular order? Thank you.

<3 lol seeing that 570, my living room HTPC still has a GTX 260 in it with a passthru for audio. Years and years that card was worked great. Like a freakin' NES.
