Hey there, Gamers, Crazy Overclockers! Swaggers! Extreme builders! And Man-Cavemasters!
Any release or confirmation on the new 980ti card? And will it be worth the wait over just going for sli 980?
Gonna go 980ti sli too but if I am going to wait like half a year, then It ain't worth it for me.
_______________________________ Details and notes: Gaming on 1080p 120hz. But I may get higher res monitor in time. So faar I am ordering a new pc. But alot of trouble have put it on hold so faar, due to som ram trouble/Mix up in order. But currently I am useing a computer with a 8800 gtx card who is scrapping the buttom so that is a drag too + I can only run 3,5 ram due to issue with eithe ram/motherboard too. I can wait, but I am consindering just going ahead with the 980 sli in my build, and say screw it to 980ti.

Any model not listed on the EVGA website is rumor. It is difficult to say when NVIDIA will decide to release their next generation/version video card. When they do such information will be seen on the NVIDIA and/or EVGA website.

Hopefully they release in the near future, but I wish they wouldn't call it the 980ti, and just call is some more unique, since it will be an in-between the 980 and Titan.
If you can wait, wait. The moment you buy anything, the next one will be released. I can promise you that.

if the price is anywhere near what's listed then even selling both my watercooled 970s I still wouldn't have enough to buy 1 980 Ti

rjohnson11 commented that they can't comment, every time this happens, a release is soon.... coincidence?

Let me put it this way: There is no universe where Nvidia will not release something to rain on AMD's parade. As soon as AMD releases their 300 cards, you'll see a new card(s) from Nvidia . To answer the OPs question, I would wait since either way you'll be able to either get the "Ti" or the 980s at a discount.

I can't post the link, but if you google 980 ti and on the third page there is a link to a evga product page titled 980 Ti. Hopefully this means the launch is close!

Worth is up to you and depends on what you had before. For instance, I expect for graphics upgrades to have at least a 1% gain for every dollar extra I spend; based on that I wouldn't even look at Maxwell for what you're thinking of.
That being said, last time when AMD bought 290 and 290X, GTX780 dropped from $650 to $500 and GTX770 dropped from $400 to $330; then nVidia introduced a faster GTX780 Ti for $700. This time since we know a 390X is coming within a month, though GTX980 is already $500 and GTX970 is already $330, so they won't drop further. This allows a GTX980 Ti to sneak in and reoccupy the same $700 price point as the last high-end "Ti" model but below the current $1000 Titan-X. There is no great mystery, GTX980Ti will be a $699 MSRP.
Except this time, the Titan-X will be slower than GTX980 Ti, which is expected to retain the same frequencies as GTX980; thus being up to 50% faster, maybe 40% real world (since Titan-X was 30-35% real world ahead of GTX980).
Let's say per the wide varieties of rumors and hopes that GTX980 Ti arrives between June and September this year. Are you willing to wait for 40% more performance for around 40% extra cost using 40% more power to do so, versus getting a GTX980 now? It depends on the card you have; if it is Kepler based, maybe it isn't that old; but if you have Fermi or older, it won't matter which you get theyll both be awesome.
Worth is about your prefered or accepted performance scaling for the cost over the time you will invest.

I think NVIDIA will launch GTX980Ti for maybe 2 months and step-up will be possible 100% on reference models. Now depend of you price of GTX980 will drop only little when GTX980Ti show up. Maybe 980 reference 500 and GTX980Ti reference 700-750$. For me is good option example if someone need card now to buy EVGA 980 Classified example, and than on autumn when EVGA finish 980Ti Classified he sell 980 for 500$ and upgrade immediately on 980Ti Classified. That's best deal if you ask me. If NVIDIA launch GTX980Ti in July, at the beginning or mid September best models will be available, maybe even end of September. 980Ti Classified Hydro Copper example.

If you want something now, i'd suggest getting the EVGA GTX Titan X SC over a pair of GTX 980's. If you do stick with GTX 980's i'd get these instead of the Asus Strix: http://www.newegg.com/Pro...x?Item=N82E16814127834 The MSI card takes 8+8 pin connectors over the Asus 8+6... So if you decide to overclock, you will be able to get more power to the GPU and VRAM for the same price as the Asus. It's a quality built card as well... Don't know if you all ready bought that CPU/Motherboard combo... but you would save a ton of money if you bought a i7 4790K and Z97 board instead... You will get about the same performance in games if that's what you are using your PC for.

TITAN X SC i so good that I want to cry. I simply don't care for AMD surrogates handicapped for GPU PhysX Effects.
