I set my days buffer for 10 days as I have the space to hold it currently ... it may hurt me in the long run but hey ... and i just got back from work and noticed it DL'd a BUNCH of stuff and put quite a bit on hold and running some of the cancer ones as High Priority and wont work on the rest till those are complete first i guess

would it be best to lower the ammount of the buffer to a smaller number to limit what it downloads and runs?

Yes...

I found allowing any more than say 4 days and I always ran into issues... Including a few lates... I suggest no more than 4 days for the daily Cruncher. I personally found my sweet spot (I Live by set it and forget it) of "2" days...

remember ... this is being done on my SR-2 which has 16 threads all doing work ... so 4 days cause i have such a large system then? ... btw ... to save on heat i set my CPU's back to stock clocks and I changed the "Change Assignments" to 150 minutes ... most of what i have been seeing takes just over 2 hours per thread so i wanted to knock them totally out before moving onto a different project since when 1 is done i hope it moves onto a different one when 1 has hit 100% ... or am I assuming incorrectly on that part?

Yes...

Let me explain...

Every single time you adjust your preferences in any way... the BOINC Manager re-validates your CPU ability (Runs a bench mark) so it can tell how much your system can produce in a 24 hour time frame.

We can make a thread of the benchmark for fun as a way to introduce it if you and others would like to do so =]....

That said... Think of it like this...

One day of work for a Two core CPU will be half that of a Four Core. So time does not matter on it's own, the ability of the system and time does. And then there is overclocking or more accurately... Different factory clocks per CPU and Cycles... Oh and RAM .... and so on and so on...

And I just looked.. In one full day of Crunching I have four pages + waiting for validation and 9 validated

I have the following currently in number of pages

In-Progress - 78
Pending Validation - 5
Valid - 2

not bad for just starting last night ...

NOICE!!!

Keep in mind of you choose a newer project... They tend to take longer to validate as they are new after all

I've got 2 sitting at 100% waiting to send. but if I count the Tasks that are running, it's always 12. I don't worry about waiting to send. It never takes too long, and I'm always days early on deadline.

that would be very nice to see and have ... get started on that mister!!! ... hehe

All signed up, thanks for the guide

I'll have my 2 stations at work (C2D E6850's) going pretty much 24/7.

Good to keep the EVGA team spirit going no matter what project we're working on

I had about 15 completed/waiting to be sent and didn't know I had set the network parameters manually. That stuff don't come easy to me. Anyhoo I set them and the next time I looked the wu's were gone. If I don't show up in stats soon something is still wrong. I stopped allowing new tasks until I get this fixed. I'm crunching 8 with seven left in the cue.
Fingers crossed.

I know you are AB, and we'll git er done. Thanks!

I like crunching on cpu and folding gpus on same rig. Temps are good on cpu too.

Ok I think I just joined and I think im crunching.

Is there a way for the captain (Afterburner) to confirm that I've actually joined the team? I didnt type in the team number, I just found it under Crunching@EVGA in the team list.

My crunching doesnt seem to be running. It says elapsed time 2 minutes and 35 seconds and its not moving from there. The program itself isnt frozen, i am able to go in the preferences and options and what not, but it says Paused: Other work running.

Does that mean I cannot fold on SMP and crunch?

I have not tried to do both at the same time because Crunching (at default settings) will try to use all your CPU Cores with a single Crunching Project assigned to each Core/Thread.  SMP will also (at default settings) try to use those same Cores.  Some of the more technical Crunchers here may be able to tell you how to do both, but I either Fold SMP or Crunch, but not both on the same machine.  You can GPU Fold at the same time though.

You can Fold on your GPU and Crunch on the CPU...lots of people do that here and I've done it in the cooler months of the year.  Too hot to Fold on GPU's for me right now.  But yes, you can do that type of Folding and Crunching.

Ok thank you. I'll have to let my gpu's do the folding and my cpu do the crunching.

Okay, I'm going to stick with a little folding and a little Einstein@Home Crunching, but for now that's all I can handle. I did create a WCG account and joined the EVGA WCG team though. I may eventually get some computers on these projects, but I can only handle so much for now. :)
