Crowskick tank1023 I'd like to see EVGA change the folding section to Distributed Computing section so we can get it in there. I'll be switching soon. +1 To this. I've been interested in SETI, if we had a distributed computing section we could pull all of this together Sweet Crow! I was waiting to see if anyone else was interested in SETI. I will be working on that in addition to the other BOINC supported projects here.

texinga I could still use a bit of help understanding how to keep from receiving new Tasks (for the few occasions that I need to do it). I have tried to follow the FAQ info from the WCG Forum shown in the link below, but every time a Task finishes, a new one loads. This is all still new to me and probably something I'm not understanding yet. I'd figured that if I have clicked the "No New Tasks" button and done the Update, that I would see my Tasks list eventually work down to zero, but that isn't happening. It does say on the Projects tab, in the Status column, "Won't get new tasks", but it still is getting new tasks. http://www.worldcommunity...,24269_offset,0#212743 Happy to help... Depending on what amount of job you want to do... I usually (See pic below) change the box "Additional Work Buffer" to .25 That is 25% of a day... Not 25 days... In my pic I have it as 2 days (Two)... This keeps it from loading more than 1/4 of a days worth of work. Or just select "Disconnect when done" on the left... Basically every single time you make a change like that the BOINC Manager "tests" or "Benches" you system to calculate what that amount of units needs to be in order to achieve your request...

Just signed up. I don't have many resources to offer currently. Once i hit my 150k on F@H for the month i'll switch my gpu's over to WCG Edit: Just noticed the GPU selection is slim. Anyone know how an e8400 will do on these projects?

Thanks for the help AB. My "Additional Work Buffer" was already set to .25, so I set the "Disconnect when done" selection and I'll see if that does it.

Anyone know how an e8400 will do on these projects? Yes.... They do quite well. It is not the size of the CPU but the amount of cores and clocks it runs at.... Unlike the SMP where all cores work on one unit... WCG runs one unit on each core...

Lu523 For those that are going to crunch on more the one rig there is a program called boincview. You can use it just like the main boinc program. Do us a favor... Create a new thread with this info links and all, it deserves it's own thread as I bet it will be very usefull to a lot of members (Including myself )

Will do. You can also use Boinc to install and setup WCG. Here is the web page for it: http://boinc.berkeley.edu/

I'm beginning the process of installing this on my 4 folding machines. Question: Should I run these off my platter drive instead of SSDs?

There are mixed opinions on this when searching. I figure it's better to keep in on one of my spinners. Since there is no advantage to running it on the ssd, might as well save the wear and tear. UP and running now, good times!

Any kinda of constant data transfer is considered to shorten the lifetime of an ssd. Not sure how much of that is still true these days. I just put any kind of folding/crunching on my hdd instead as an ssd won't offer much of a performance gain.

I set my days buffer for 10 days as I have the space to hold it currently ... it may hurt me in the long run but hey ... and i just got back from work and noticed it DL'd a BUNCH of stuff and put quite a bit on hold and running some of the cancer ones as High Priority and wont work on the rest till those are complete first i guess would it be best to lower the ammount of the buffer to a smaller number to limit what it downloads and runs?

You would be best to set it for 5 days. That should do good.

Yes... I found allowing any more than say 4 days and I always ran into issues... Including a few lates... I suggest no more than 4 days for the daily Cruncher. I personally found my sweet spot (I Live by set it and forget it) of "2" days...

Did notice one thing. I have 42 valid that counts to my Completion number in my stats. When using filter, that makes for a couple over 2 pages. I have 5 pages finished and pending validation, didn't feel like counting. Do I take it to mean that once validated, they get added to my completed tasks? If so... WHAHOO. I'm so not gonna worry about it 'til I get a better feel for the new system. Seems some simply projects just take longer than others to get validated. All my selected projects have at least a couple validated so far, and only one task has errored. I can feel a Team WCGEVGA jump coming soon

I found it in there FAQ's library... http://www.worldcommunity...viewthread?thread=6105 Basically you will not get any credit for those until they have enough to validate and or it hits your late's... Keep in mind I think I have had three late's because they had to wait for enough to verify, but I got full credit. SO it is not a bad thing unless you see a lot of them... Or you had finished WU but did not have Internet access to connect to the server in time...

remember ... this is being done on my SR-2 which has 16 threads all doing work ... so 4 days cause i have such a large system then? ... btw ... to save on heat i set my CPU's back to stock clocks and I changed the "Change Assignments" to 150 minutes ... most of what i have been seeing takes just over 2 hours per thread so i wanted to knock them totally out before moving onto a different project since when 1 is done i hope it moves onto a different one when 1 has hit 100% ... or am I assuming incorrectly on that part?
