I have a GTX 660, and recently I started having a weird problem where my monitors will go black, and then sometimes go back to normal, or they will go black and then say HDMI/ DVI (Dual monitor) and my computer stays on, but I can't hear sound or do/see anything. Also sometimes while I am watching a twitchtv stream, it will happen, and when it comes back the stream is all green, and Blizzard's battle.net program will no longer open. I mostly play WoW/overwatch/watch twitchtv. This problem also happened on path of exile in the past. It's a new card (the old 660 had the same issue though). So here's what typically happens. I open overwatch/wow on my first monitor, and have a twitch stream on my second monitor. Anywhere from 5 minutes to a few hours go by, and I get these different scenarios that mess my PC up. I troubleshooted this before, and my temperatures were fine. I found some posts online with similar problems, where they recommended increasing the voltage by 10% in Precision, and lowering the clock speed. I tried lowering the clock speed, but I will try increasing the voltage as well I guess. I constantly keep track of temps with speedfan, and the GPU will crash sometimes at 60C, and the CPU will be at 40C. i5-4690K is my CPU GTX 660 is my GPU I also get a notification that my drivers crash sometimes when I get this problem, and it tells me it was successfully restarted, or whatever it says. Any ideas? Thanks.

'Speedfan' has been known to be buggy and cause problems. I would remove it first and see if you have any improvement. If you need to monitor your temperatures then I would recommend MSI Afterburner. It's what I have been using for years without any problems at all. Now you can stack the graph from each Core into a single panel and assign each Core a different color to monitor each Core. I do the same with my CPU Usage. Use version 2.4.0 Stable/Final: http://www.guru3d.com/files-details/msi-afterburner-beta-download.htmlIf you have PrecisionX installed you will need to remove it entirely before using Afterburner.

Welcome to the Forum CrunCherTiMe I would suggest using GPU Shark to watch your Temperatures. To set the Fans only on your GTX 660 just use EVGA PrecisionX 16 Version 5.3.11Set the Fans how you want them and then EXIT EVGA PrecisionX 16 Do not set it up to run with Windows Start up. It only takes a second to open EVGA PrecisionX 16 and set the fan or you save a profile then select the profile. Also you can use NVIDIA Inspector to set the fans. For as old as the GTX 660 GPUs are I would not overclock them. To set the Fan in NVIDIA Inspector Click the Button at the Bottom Right Show overclocking and then set the fan. You can also view the GPU Temperatures with NVIDIA InspectorAs Zuhl3156 above said stay away from SpeedFan.

I had problems with this before I used speed fan. I went through EVGA customer support VIA e-mail and I did a clean install of drivers with a program he had me use as well. The temperatures aren't the issue but I will get rid of speed fan.

Which drivers? I use 372.54 because the newer release causes many people issues. Are you using GeForce Experience? If so, I would remove it. Also known to cause issues.

I just always download the latest drivers(372.70), and geforce experience is installed ATM. My power supply is cooler master, I can't find my box/order history but I know its at least 600+watts, around 2-3 years old. ( and I opened my case to check for a serial number and there isn't one, at least not in the side facing out)

Lowering the clock speed/increasing the voltage hasn't helped? What motherboard are you using? Is the motherboard bios completely up to date?

I removed geforce experience, and this problem started months ago(I talked to EVGA support and we couldn't fix it, so I RMA'd the card, and it worked fine for a while), and the past week it has become unplayable. Before if I would just close TwitchTV on my second monitor, I could play Overwatch just fine. Now I will sometimes crash within 5-10 minutes of playing it. I will also revert back to older drivers and test it when I get home later today.

How do you play a game on one Monitor and watch TV on a second Monitor without being Killed in the Game? You should go back to 368.81 for now and do some testing. Being that the Old Card had this issue and your New Card has this issue it seems to me that it is an issue with your MB and or PSU. But because the GTX 660 is kind of old you could test with driver 327.23.

2 GB isn't a whole lot of VRAM and might be causing problems running a graphics intensive game plus a second monitor with it. There are some games that I play on my GTX-980 Gaming 4G boards that will cause my GTX-680 2 GB to lock up and crash.

It has been crashing while I play one game as well now. I had Overwatch open (lowest settings), and nothing else, and in 40~ minutes it crashed my PC.

I shut my PC off before I left this morning, and when I came home I played WoW for over an hour straight (nothing else), and my game froze, went black, for about 5 seconds, then turned back on. Then 10~ minutes later it froze completely. I restarted, and within 15 minutes it froze and went black again. I tried the old drives yesterday, and am using the newest drives right now.

Sounds like a faulty gpu to me. How long did the new card work before having issues again like the old card? Can you test the card in another system (family, friends, pc repair shop)? Does the crashing go away when using integrated graphics?

The new card had similar problems, after a few days. It wasn't as bad as it is now,at first it would just freeze for a second or freeze then go back to normal.

Update: I removed one ram stick, and it crashed(although it seemed to have lasted longer than usual, could just be a placebo thing). But I then took out the other ram stick and put the first one I took out back in, and so far I haven't had any crashes in over 8~ hours. I'm going to test it a bit more just to make sure though. And if it works fine I guess the one stick of ram is bad.

Good find and a lucky break if you have a defective RAM module or modules. Best thing to do now is to run MemTest86+ to test the remaining RAM sticks: http://www.memtest.org/ Test one stick at a time usually for at least two or three passes then move onto the next stick. It can take a while but just be patient. Once a stick gets an error, take it out and mark it 'defective' so you don't put it back in. LOL Yes, I've done that before!

Testing 1 stick of Ram at a time is the best way to trouble shoot that.

Haven't been able to do much testing until recently. So I took my GPU and RAM and put them in my brother's computer. I ran two twitch TV streams, played overwatch, and had WoW open. It didn't crash over multiple hours. I just got back home today and I put everything back in, and I opened WoW and had a youtube video on (a minute?) and my monitor went black for 2-3 seconds, it came back, had HDMI in the top left. I tab out, and the battle.net program was 'broken'. When I clicked it it pulls up and is just a blue outline rather than having all sorts of info on the screen. At this point I have no idea what to do. Power, drivers(I did clean installs that people on forums and CS told me to, including their tactics), something wrong with my entire motherboard? If I just play WoW with no video stream going on, it tends to be fine, probably 90% of the time. EDIT: It also seems that his computer runs faster than mine, even though I have a stronger CPU, mobo, and an SSD.

Inside the motherboard bios under pc health status check the +12v reading to see if it fluctuates more than .05. If it does fluctuate more than .05 your psu may have an issue.

You might have to wipe the whole O/S and reinstall. How old is the current O/S install on your Pc now?! How many HDD/SSD's do you have, how filled are they and which ones are boot drives and which are just file/game/other drives?! Either that or you don't have the correct settings in your bios for the cpu vcore and settings for the ram. If your using XMP, don't. Manually set timings, voltage command rate. If your cpu vcore is too low your system will struggle and hardlock, among other weird things and if its too high it will bsod or freeze with a crazy audio loop going. Manually set vcore and put cpu back to stock, ram too save and reboot. Letting a mobo auto sense voltage rarely has good results..... for anything.

Ya, me too. I think im going to have to do it myself and what kills me is I had a slipstream disc with updates right up to the win10 betas and I ran it over with computer chair, lol. Crunched a set of headphones that way too! I did it to myself though cause I did the win 10 upgrade over my main boot drive in the last week just to register the serial for 10, and after I confirmed it was registered I rolled back to 7 and ever since then the whole setup has been wonky. Ive got svchost.exe running amok and weird crashes, gpu runs 10c hotter than before it for no reason so when I get the time this week im going to punish myself and do it. Maybe make another slipstream disc....maybe like a dozen this time so I don't have this little problem again, lol. :P
