Some people just want to watch the world burn.
Not my fault if you're offended.

But hey I can make a buck selling these "testers" At a minimum if it were for legitimate "testing"; software + Key code, would be required and all buyers would be registered; by default it should leave a traceable ID back to the buyer through serial number .

You would think hardware vendors would make this a priority, to release a fix that would prevent it happening.

Why a power surge in the USB will kill a computer its been known since 1996, that's why any device you buy should be from a reputible company if your going to plug it into your USB port. Stuff like this isn't new its just a for sure way to do it. I remember an old USB hotpad/coffee warmer idea that caused this years ago, it was pulled because it caused power surges that damaged or destroyed computers.

My dell m6800 survived/survives ~160v DC on the USB/audio board when I do something stupid with my USB o scope. The usb/audio board dies, and the laptop shuts down, but other than that it survives.

It is ironic, apple doesn't believe in anti virus but by all means protect the computer from something with the odds of happening being 9999999999999999999999999999999:1

I just wish the couple year old Apple laptop I got still worked on AC. Seems their better power management let the battery swell. Through superior design, laptop is DEAD ---> refuses to work on AC, with a "bad" battery or removed --> Nice design Apple My reliable old HP laptop still works fine plugged in, even with battery removed or "bad" batter installed
