It seems like Valve is no longer a gamer company, but rather a money company. Policies like allowing companies to ban, having publishers moderating and banning users on forums, shoving EA (early access) down our throats... Turning Valve into a store instead of a gaming company, known for making games like Half Life. We don't need another store, we have GMG (where I buy all my Steam games) and Amazon... Valve is turning into a store company.

Steam is a store, Valve is a game company. It's a bit naive to believe they made Steam to be a bunch of tree hugging feel good gamers. It's a storefront and has been for over a decade now.

What has Valve been doing? Sinking all their resources into Steam. I purposefully refrained from saying "Steam" in my post.

Heard of Source Engine 2? The new games were held back on development till Source Engine 2 was ready. You'll see a new batch of Valve games soon.

Considering Source Engine 2 was just announced March 2015, not sure what you mean.

Every company is out to make money, some might put conditions on how they go about making it, but those tend to fall off once there's enough money at stake, Good Guy Greg co. will be re-branded as Scumbag Steve co. as soon as it gets big enough. I don't think there is much that can be done to prevent that outright, but consumers might be able to move the threshold for when it crosses over to the dark side, a little farther if we try.

Yeah. They are becoming less attractive as a store now as well. Their customer service is terrible and it is like they just run an idle ship nowadays... Letting publishers do as they please. They used to seem very pro-customer, a breath of fresh air in the current gaming industry... It just seems like they have went downhill.

They seem right on track to ME! Customer service has always been terrible so no change there. They are spanning out and creating more ways for not only them to make some money, but to help others do so as well. Not a bad company/store in my opinion!

Meh Gabe basically already admitted Valve makes more money selling TF hats and steam trinkets vs profits from making a game example he used was Portal2. If i can find the link to the interview ill add it later. Regardless i Agree with OP Valve has always had bad customer service but they no longer care about their core audience like they use too.

Yeah I remember that one, he basically was complaining on how hard it was to fix the multiplayer part of Portal 2 and how much money he lost compared to selling hats... and keys... and skins... and others peoples games... and trying to sell mods.

As for the OP, Valve has not been a game company for some time now, am really surprised people haven't noticed.

    Their new employee handbook
"Valve is more than a game company. We started our existence as a pretty traditional game company. And we’re still one, but with a hugely expanded focus. Which is great, because we get to make better games as a result, and we’ve also been able to diversify. We’re an entertainment company. A software company. A platform company. But mostly, a company full of passionate people who love the products we create."

yea it is not happening at all because in another interview  he siad they had no plans to revisit old  IPs   like that and that they have no intendings  on doing so they are working on newer and other things  .  HL3 is not happening at all   the past years  it has been beaten really hard to the point the batter is so think   on this topic of HL3  so that is it  it is not  gonna happen  .

ewell was asked whether or not fans will ever see a proper Half-Life 3. Newell replied: "The only reason we'd go back and do like a super classic kind of product is if a whole bunch of people just internally at Valve said they wanted to do it and had a reasonable explanation for why [they did]."

But you know if you want to do another Half-Life game and you want to ignore everything we've learned in shipping Portal 2 and in shipping all the updates on the multiplayer side, that seems like a bad choice," Newell continued. "So we'll keep moving forward.

Valve has no reason to make new games long as they have two cash cows called TF2 and CS:GO. They make a ton of money from micro-transactions. The same thing we hate EA and Activision for.

Pretty much, but it seems more OK to slam EA and Activision than Valve... The irony, right?

I for one am emphatically upset with what Valve now calls "Counter-Strike," these days.  I have been playing since the tail end of 1.3, and it is so sad to see how far down the crapper that this game title has gone.  Counter Strike 1.5 was an amazing rendition of the game, and I sadly feel that while Steam has come sooooo far and has made amazing strides in the gaming industry, it was the worst thing to ever happen to the title.  Do not get me wrong, I love 1.6, but it really felt that anything baring the title "Counter-Strike," was released just as a marketing standpoint.

They put the name "Counter-Strike" on it because it sold, Condition Zero was a turd, Source was garbage, and CS:GO...  Ugh, do not get me started on how atrocious this game is.  It is the only game that I have ever tried to pay the developers to take back.  It's as if CoD was implemented on the Source engine, and Valve does not care at all how bad the game is.  They had to implement microtransactions to keep them from falling into the red because more people went back to playing 1.6.  The game just lacks character and depth when it comes to unique playstyle and stability.

The fact that you can run a 128-tick server on a minimally provisioned VM and have it run stable should be enough evidence that there is little care put forth to this game.

The sad part is that the store is even getting worse. There is A LOT of garbage on the Steam store now, thanks to greenlight and EA.
