Hi all Well this thread will be about how this new Duallie will come to it's completion, evrey time i get new pats i will make some nice pics and probably a video if that is worth doing hehe. The idea for this build began on Friday October 15, 2010, October 27th 2010 came the first part; the Lian Li W-X2000B Side Window from PerformancePCS.com, Palm Bay, Florida USA and today 3 months later the case arrived from High FLow B.V Rotterdam The Netherlands. So here it is also with the side panel attached Tomorrow the motherboard; a Supermicro H8DG6-F should be arriving with UPS aka United Parcel Service from Germany So more pics once this part arrives, from this I will do more selling gear and saving up and aim for the CPU's a pair of AMD 12 Core OpteronMP 6174 HE Mangy Cours CPU's with a pair of Dynatron A6 coolers, these will get a pair of Enermax Cluster white ledded fans. After this I plan on getting some ram 8x 4GB PC3-10600 ECC Reg from Kingston to start with and as upgrade another 8x 4GB PC3-10600 ECC Reg from Kingston, to fullfill all ram slots and the Quad Channel DDR3-1333 per CPU. Then I will only purchase SSD's for my sotrage, the idea is to use no more moving parts, 6x 240GB sized SSD's with MLC chips should be a good investment, but this is something I plan to do in stages, start off with 2x 240GB in a raid 0 and add the other 4 over the uprade periods, that HDD hotswap bay will come in great handy to usage for these. As for VGA cards? Well I have my GTX 480's to test the SLI hack, unless Lucid comes with them Hydra PCI-E x8 cards these will be used t make multi chip with NVIDIA GPU's possible, the PSU will be the Silverstone Strider 1500W and the soundcard an Auzentech X-Fi Forte 7.1 PCI-E x1 64MB XRam. All in all, this will take me at least a year to do, but since the loss of my computerclub died due to member loss and playing no more deticated Lan games, which could of saved it.. So I am doing this so it will last for quite a few years, more than the average system would last, Lifespan is something very important I have to take serious, so I want to make this a perfect build, so patience will ben needed. Bulldozer support will be welcome as well, since G34 will support these 16 core monsters, so that is just something nice to have for the system's lifespan, even when it's completed 8-12 months from now, although I hope earlier, it still will be a solid performer, so yeah I am going to take this ride, no more 1CPU builds from this one off. 2CPU.com: Because two is deffintely better than one.

Oh it's a project I have been following @ 2CPU.com for quite some time, 2CPU.com forum member Aryan came up with a fix so that SLI will also work on mobo's that do not officially support it :) See it as like a safe workaround, so then you can enjoy SLI even on non-SLI certified mobo's ;) Here more about it, you will find it interesting, well I did hehe http://kingpincooling.com...d.php?t=520&page=3 http://xdevs.com/sli/SLIPatch_v0.9_beta.exe Well today the Motherboard arrived, as some may have seen in my G34 Motherboard thread Here some pics I made of the Supermicro H8DG6-F, also pointing out to things that them leaked pics did not even show The funny thing was that the Supermicro H8DG6-F was packed in a Supermicro H8DA8-2 Box! but it did have a barcode that also shoed that there was a Supermicro H8DG6-F-O inside the O means that it is a retail version of the board So this is what you get: When you open up the box, things do look better, like seeing Supermicro's Checklist of all the contents what is within this Pandorra's box And this is the mobo here the layout of this behemoth: Here CPU socket 1 and 2: Here the PCI-E slots and the Dual AMD 5690 NB's, the LSI SAS2 600, SATA II 300 connectors and the rest So here's the mobo in the Tyr, as if was made for it all hah!

Got some stuff in a plastic box that's makes my screen turn on when I push the button on the front, cool. I think it's aliens, but I'll have to confirm with voodoo do-er on that.

Yeah well where there is a will to accomplish goals, there is always a way of taking them on even how high the expenses may be :) Even being this might take another 8 months before completetion, at the least I can take my time on it now, after obtained the most difficult to obtain parts, which is the case , side panel and mobo, from this point i will look for the Strider 1500, an Auzentech X-Fi Forte 7.1 PCI-Express sound card with 64MB XRAM and the lighting a few SSD's the CPU's and Ram I plan on taking around August,, then the prices are more worthful. The Dual OpteronDP 2380C2 took also about a year but it's still going on strong, this Dual OpteronMP 6174 HE will be for my flight simulators only, as where the 2380C2 is good enough for the games that even come up the road. But yeah once I get ew items for this new Duallie, I'll make a post to fill in this log topic, a log to how all the parts are applied and gathered, also nice for it's history log, after it has been completed and slowly we shall see this 24 core monster come to life

May I ask why did you go with a server grade motherboard? Is it because you can have 256GB of DDR3 ECC lol?

All boards that take Dual G34 are going to be server boards. It's main purpose is running flight sims with it's 24 cores. The features and quality of the Supermicro board are suberb, the inbult RAID, the RAM support, PCIe slots and all the other bits that Obi could tell you about for days lol. And yes, Obi plans for a total of 256GB in the future Peace

Trelor May I ask why did you go with a server grade motherboard? Is it because you can have 256GB of DDR3 ECC lol? Yeaps the G34 platform is also the i5520 killer when it comes to max performance especially when doing real time flight simulations with Sattelite quallity meshes like that from Real Enviroment Xtreme 2.1 HD + Ultimate Terrain X and all the -Plan and PMDG add ons, REX 2.1 HD supports up to 32 CPU cores, this mobo also will get Dual 16 Core Opteron Interlagos Bulldozer Support, which I plan on taking once they arrive, that is if they are worth taking over the 12 core Mangy Cours CPU's, the 6174 HE /6176 HE's I have in mind now, in most cases the newer Opterons of the next-gen have been the better buy that the ones out atm, so I plan to take my time on this very carefully Ram wise well it's also because I interest such computers alot more, I also plan to use this machine for Blu_Ray Hx264 encoding and a=other scientiffic research. I have worked with 2CPU systems since Jan 28 year 2000 and since then I never wanted a 1 CPU system again, even that I had a few to try 'em out, but they are far too underpowered for my needs, they lack cores also, they lack mass ram support, SAS2-600 controllers are hardly seen, the quallity of the parts is dreadful these days, it's all made in China, which is good enough for a high end 1CPU gaming system which you'd replace every 2 to 3 years, some even replace it within a year and I don't want the need for such expensive upgrades I prefer to build something very expensive see about 7500 euro's to 8000 euro's and use this to it's maximum levels, just a different choice I have taken with this Dual G34 build. But when it comes to Supermicro, it's either made in USA, Taiwan or Singapore, where the highest quallity of gear comes from, you pay the price but you pay for what it's worth and truly get the highest quallity for what you pay for. Overclocking isn irrelevant in 2CPU / 4CPU land, the more cores will do you alot more in use than just some overclocking, over time an Overclock will bring isntabillity isues especially when running apps 24/7 at 100% load for 5years + or apps that use the CPU alot for short burts of time, I just never liked OC'ing and never saw the needs for it. So as that goes the i7's are good for simplified programs like games, multimedia or entertainment, but when you want to go professional, go Dual Opteron or Dual Xeon with a Supermicro Motherboard or equivilant, ASUS, MSI and Tyan also have good alternatives, but none of them beat the quality of a Supermicro. I am Gold Leader from 2CPU.com maybe you'd ougtha take a look over there, I can show some nice stuff if you are interested in this segment. http://www.2cpu.com The Supermicro H8DG6-F has Quad Channel DDR3-1333 per CPU so by using all ram slots you have Octo Channel DDR3-1333when using both multicore CPU's It also has Dual AMD 5690 Chipsets which will feed the PCI-Express slots with an extra boatload of bandwidth and the other is for the CPU's and memory controllers, with Dual Chipsets this also gives more lifespan to the system it's self. :) The parts also just arrived today here a quick look, it arrived within 24 hours from High Flow Rotterdam w00t!

cj3waker you need to go surround or something with this build! having this amazing hardware for flight sim but limiting it to a single small resolution is a crime Yes that I understand, but room is very limited in my room, but I do plan on taking an EIZO 30"TFT with a S-PVA screen, these cost about 2300 euro's and have the best image quality to which I plan to use. And each system is important for my needs, except the i7 which I have to sell, so selling a few is out of option. My appartment is 65 square metres, that being said I am 100% disabled and moving to a new home is out of option, so I have to do with what I have, but when I want something badly and it wil cost me alot, it may take me a year to save up, but with this build completed I can save up many years for needed upgrades or other things, and enjoy it for avery long time, which is the idea of this project. My room is like this now I placed the new system on my table and this is the room I need to cooperate with: Now it's about like this :) That is an old shot, I'll make a new one tonight, that i7 is going to in parts on ebay, it has to go to make the G34 Project more fundable Madrias Definitely a stunning build. That it will be, each part will be chosen carefully and it will be built with a lot of pride and love, as being this is the main hobby that keeps my mind in a straight level Just want to thank everyone for their kind replies, thanks again EVGA people!

if you sell off that i7 system that will free up some room. If you are considering blowing that kind of cash on a monitor, you should look at (3) 2411h, in portrait mode they wouldnt take up too much more room than the 30" and would be way cheaper. and paying that much for a tft monitor seems like a bit of a rip, the ultrasharps are all IPS

ahh oke, yeah sounds like an idea :) So the middle screen stand slike any single monitor would and the ones on the side verticle? I dunno how the natuaral way would be like, seen some people use all 3 verticle , all 3 horizontal or the two side screens verticle and the middle one horizontal, if possible the most natural way of doing is what I'd prefer then :) As for 3D vision, I tried this, but it has no effect, as being I am 1 of 4% in the world that isa flat viewer, so this is something Ican leave out heh. As brands go I am an EIZO fan, my last EIZO lived for 21 years, even being itwas a CRT, they have unmatched quality. S-PVA and IPS are indeed the best screens around,, if going 24"they have to be 16:10 aspect and not 16:9 I want a real monitor and not a piece of cloth like a cinema has, I dislike 16:9 , as being used to 16:10, with Flight simming seeing more is the idea 3x 1920 x 1200 sounds like a plan, although iiyama also has some nice choices, thx for the idea though , it seems like worth thinking about hehe

S-PVA and IPS are indeed the best screens around,, if going 24"they have to be 16:10 aspect and not 16:9 I want a real monitor and not a piece of cloth like a cinema has, I dislike 16:9 , as being used to 16:10, with Flight simming seeing more is the idea 3x 1920 x 1200 sounds like a plan, although iiyama also has some nice choices, thx for the idea though , it seems like worth thinking about hehe I, too, don't see in 3D. Same about screens: 16:10 or nothing.

ah well at least it savesus extra by not buying that 3D vision stuff, I wonder if there are monitors that are 2 or 3 in one? So you don't have them bezels blocking your view? a Seamless image is always nicer than one with beams connecting them from on to the other right.

as far as I know the only way to go seemless multiple displays is to mod it yourself or use a projector. Im also waiting for someone to make a single monitor that like a 3 in one, at a 48:10/9 aspect ratio

Project G34 Update The next runners up will be the following: 1x EVGA GTX 580 SC Edition 1x Plextor PX-LB950SA 2x Noctua NH-U12DO A3 Socket G34 Coolers 2x 256GB 3rd Gen Intel Postvile 2.5" SSD's Well, I am going for the GTX 580 SC Edition because this will be sufficiant enough to get things going, it seems I will take it on like this, I prefer to wait and see how good that Lucid card is, planing on new hardware that is not even released yet is always a big question. the GTX 580 SC Editions are on bargain at my retailer and are cheaper than the vanilla ones so it's my obvious choice to go for the SC Edition and hey this system would be worth them too. If that Lucid card is good as Lucid says it will be, I can always add a secondary EVGA GTX 580 SC, after testing it with my current GTX 480's. as an idea though No Kepler yet, it's just too far from my needs, I can use the money more on the CPU's, Ram and SSD's after this next update, they will depend greatly on how this monster system will perform in the end What also is possible, if I really need more rendering power I could go for a GTX 590 if it's like a GX2 580, 2x GTX 580 GPU's with 2x 1.5GB ram, then use this as main VGA and the GTX 580 as Deticated PhysX, this way the Lucid card wont even be needed But then again 1 Next-Gen GPU with 1024 Cuda cores would run alot better than 1 card with two 512 Cuda Cored GPU's onboard as load ballancing goes, so I think I will stick to the EVGA GTX 580 SCE after all and wait for the EVGA GTX 680 SCE's to arrive. So there are ways of doing for this setup, I have clearly seen. For the rest it's all look'n good so far Stay Tuned for MOAR !!!

This a very impressive rig indeed! I'm very happy for you. I've seen a friend playing with flight sims, and the cpu/memory requirements with all the scenery going is impressive. But, if done right, it looks the part! And highflow.nl ftw! That's where all of us cool Dutchies get our gear. Freddy and Michelle are awesome people to deal with! What's your nick on the forums there? I've posted this link in the buildlog section there, hoping you might see it. Mine is brazen.
