I think there might be some kind of file system issue going on since the NFS stale message are still showing up and the system is not able to remove the old files to be able to restore the new ones. You can try replacing # 3 with 2 or 4 after fahcontrol. 4 is the oldest. 0 is the newest. Have you done any stability testing with your system recently? Memory related issues could cause file system related issues in the virtual machine.

Should I be able to see the files in the numbered backup folders? Because I'm not seeing anything. Everything was running fine until I got that System Shutdown message I first posted about. Too bad I didn't capture it though. Maybe I'll try the new SMP now...

The files are compressed in the /var/fah directory. One other thing you can try and do is move the old files and restore. fahcontrol stop mkdir old mv queue.dat work old mkdir work tar xvf /var/fah/backup.4.tar.gz If all that comes back without errors, try starting the client manually: ./fah6 -bigadv -smp 8

The above commands should have cleared out the old files. On next reboot, the folding client should be able to download a new unit.

During the entire weekend I wasn't able to upload the wu I had finished last Friday. He tried to get a new wu, but didn't succeed (again during those 2 days). If that is normal, I guess I'll go back to normal SMP folding. Thanks for the help.

Do you have any firewalls running? If so would try disabling them to see if that helps (remember that Windows has a NAT based firewall built in too). Since you can run pings I doubt this is the problem but it's worth a shot. Is there an IP address displayed for the work server it is attempting to connect to? I'm wondering if you are having some sort of DNS issue in the virtual machine. I think the information under the linux section is correct about flushing the DNS: http://www.topbits.com/how-to-flush-dns.html A DNS server is what maps things like http://www.google.com to an IP address so if there is a problem with that then some of the addresses may not be resolving from the host name correctly.

Do I get bonus point automatically after reaching 10 WU finished or do I have to do something? I got my passkey before I started folding WU under my name. I did advmethod WU.

Once you get the ten 1920pt or bigadv work units out of the way then any additional bigadv work units you complete on time will give you bonus points. To fold bigadv work units you need the -bigadv flag passed in.

I am also wondering about qualifying for bigadv points, i have been running through the core A3 WU for a few days and was wondering if they qualify as part of the 10. I am running latest VM with advmethods turned on and have not seen a 1920pt run through, all i see are 470pt wu or similar.

Sounds good thanks, do the A3wu's have a bonus as well? I was looking at the first page of this thread and saw the smp2 calculator and found my wu's in that page and i easily making the deadline.

The points will not be as high as bigadv since the A3 work units are smaller, but you do get decent bonus for the A3's.

Make sure you maintain an 80% return rate on those A2/A3 or bigadv WUs. If you don't the WU server will assign non-bigadv WUs to you whether you completed the initial 10 WUs or not. Basically they don't want the results corrupted or late so they have a higher standard set for the bigadv work units.

If an existing SMP2 work unit is running, then that unit will have to finish first before the client will try for a bigadv work unit. Also make sure the virtual machine has 8-cores set even if you use -smp 7 with the client. The client needs to be able to detect 8-cores in order to get bigadv work. There could also be a shortage of bigadv work.

if there are no bigadv or server is down it get A3 work units (like if you had the adv flag turnd on if there are no A3 it do dreaded A1 but i think they are all done now) i will spice that page up an an little at some point i need to ask before i do it, the mirrors that are listed on here can i use them as well if so can mirror hosters PM me your links most of the data should come from my 2-3 systems and my site that i have listed in the webseed torrent users should make sure that they use an client that supports DHT (as the currant tracker i am using is down, as i think most linux client do not support it)

To answer my own question: yes, it works. Upon installation VMWare Player needs to be uninstalled though. A (time-limited) trial version of VMWare Workstation is available: https://www.vmware.com/tr...e-workstation&lp=1 Make sure you get the 7.1 version, because previous versions only support up to 4 processor cores. No performance results yet, but I suppose it will about equal to VMWare Player.

Is workstation free now?(doubt it) If not then I wouldn't bother trying to get the folks here to switch over. I would like to see LR's build ported to use VirtualBox since it supports many more cores and is free with Oracle backing them (deep pockets......) Our test group at work uses VMware all the time and they look at me like I'm an alien for using virtualbox to get my job done. I just give them crap for wasting their money on software that costs us share holders money.....

TheCrazyCanuck Is workstation free now?(doubt it) If not then I wouldn't bother trying to get the folks here to switch over. I currently have the latest beta of Virtualbox running as of about a week or so ago, Oracle VirtualBox 3.2.0_BETA3. I use it primarily for any Linux related projects that I work on although I have not had a chance to try the folding client with this version yet. It should not take much to port the image over to VB. In the past I had a VB image but I fell behind on keeping it up-to-date. I'll see if I can put together an updated image with the latest kernel.
