Hi guys,

I'm using a custom cooling solution on my GTX 1070 FTW and I want to control some Noctua NF-F12 fans with the mini 4 pin PWM connector on the card. I'm using the following adapter to change the mini 4 pin to a regular 4 pin.

Then I'm using a PWM Y connector and plugging in my 2 fans. This setup worked on my MSI GTX 680 and Palit GTX 460 no problem but on my EVGA 1070 it powers the fans but they stay at approx 500RPM and the RPM doesn't detect or change in MSI Afterburner, EVGA Precision or CPUID Hardware monitor.

Any suggestions?

Plug it straight into the motherboard.  Yes, I know it won't change with the GPU temperature, but you can run those at full speed and they are still quiet.

You definitely DO NOT want to hook your Noctua fans to the fan headers on the GPU. First, the Noctua fans use a LOT more power than the GPU fans..second, you would be robbing power from the GPU processor to run your fans.

Thanks for the help but those fans are only 0.6W each, I think they actually consume less power than the original ones.

Also I wouldn't call them quiet at full speed. Even with the low noise adapter they're fairly quiet but not quiet enough for me personally.

Are you sure the stock output is not just a varied Voltage on the GPU and Not PWM ?

Yeah I'm pretty confident, usually a GPU lets you specify a certain percentage for the fan speed whereas 3 pin DC mode tends to be more restrictive. Also there are 4 pins so as I understand it, that's ground, 5v, 7v and PWM.

Be aware that GPU fan headers may not use the same pinout as does a 4 pin PWM output on a motherboard.
