Use 4th PCI-E slot for main GPU x99 classified

I have called evga and have seen online many people have used the 4 PCI-E slot for main GPU at 3.0 x16. 
 
Can anyone else confirm that this would work. The cooler I chose for the X99 classified will cover the first PCI slot. I just want to make sure it will work. Also I will have a 5930k for a cpu so I will have 40 lanes with a EVGA 980 superclocked GPU.

    x8 or x16 is fine.  You won't lose performance.  Anywhere is fine.

    Tested that myself when I run into some issues. You'll boot just fine in any slot. If you really require x16 (which is irrelevant unless doing some really special work) then only slots 1 and 4 are x16 powered.
     
    IMHO best slots for VGA is either first or last to keep things nice and tidy.

    Thanks for the reply. I figured the 4th slot would work for x16 since some forums have said and also the evga rep I called told me it should. I know x8 vs x16 isn't much faster but my ocd would kick in knowing it could be a little faster. lol

    Sorry to say, but if won't be faster at all (except benchmarks which is hardly meaningful form of use). First of all it's not SLI setup, 2nd there is not a single game around which can saturate more than x8 Gen.2, so OCD or not you'll do fine with x8. My OCD is just fine knowing that all slots are occupied and VGA is running x8. :D
