Got what seems a major problem when connecting my Evga G2 850 watt power supply EPS12V/CPU 8 pin cable to the asus hero viii 4-pin/8-pin EATX12 V power plug on motherboard, the 2 x 4 connectors coming from the power supply, only one matches up with the 8 pin connector on board ? am i meant to connect only 1 then ? surely i need all the 8 pin connector connected ? Help!

are you sliding the 4+4 connector together before inserting it into the MB connector?

its the same 8 pin cpu connector as all others, but as i said above, you have to have it put together first, in the correct position, BEFORE inserting it into the connector

the cable has a 8 pin that goes into the cpu labelled connector on the powersupply, then on the other end, there are 2 x 4 connectors, but how ever i try only one fits in correctly to the 8 pin socket on the motherboard, whats strange is thou, that the 8 pin that i connect to the power supply fits nicely into the board, but then obviously i cant connect the 2 x 4 to the power supply can i ?

its possible, however unlikely that when the cable was manufactured they put 2 of the same 4 pin connectors on the cable. check to see if they are the same, when together they should look identical to the other end of the cable...

Just checked and both of the cables are the same, and are different at both ends, surely i cant have both of the cables wrong, i am pulling my hair out now, so if both my ends are not the same, does that mean i have wrong cables.

half of a 4+4 pin connector is all rounded off while half is alternate rounded off and square, is this right, anywhere for me to see what it should look like.

The 8 pin that goes into the power supply is exactly like that,(and it also fits perfectly into the 8 pin on the motherboard), but on the other end, the 2 x 4 when held together like photo, looks completly diffirent, only one of the connectors is correct, and other side has all round corner connectors, so is that wrong ? i think it is, and both of my leads are the same, do you think they have been made up wrong at the factory, and if so how do i go about getting the right leads ?

When held together its the left 4 that are correct as in photo, and the right side 4 all rounded.

like the article says, round pins will fit into square holes, *See edit below try putting the other 4 pin in and then the first one you tried? got me thou, it should work! *Edit: However the square pins will not fit into the rounded holes, this should prevent the cables from being inserted in the wrong position,,,

Yeh but he goes on to saying you should never do this unless you want your cpu or motherboard fired, i really dont know what to do about it, but i reckon the cables i have must be right, do you agree ? shame you did not have the cable i have to check .

the yellow (12v+) wires should be on the side where the clips are, you will be fine there is a clip holder on the connector of the MB, make sure you are putting the yellow wires (all 4) on the side where the clip holder is

are you sure your putting it in so the clips are on the correct side of the MB connector? looking at a pic of your MB the yellow wires would all be on the top edge of the MB

After reading that article again, it seems i am safe to put both of them in, as you said rounded connectors will go in square, yes i put the left one in and it clipped in ok, but the other one dont get clipped in, but i have clip same as left one, and like you say the 12v line is where the clip is, these evga cables are all sealed so i cant see the colors, but if both 4's are in the same way, it must be correct, want to really thankyou for all the help you have giving me, its much appreciated, thx
