Hi All

I used an overclocking tool to test out my performance on the GTX 690 adjusting the gpu and mem clocks slightly it stopped functioning about 5/6 times because the values were too high.

The clock used to be at 915 on both gpu's, now it is permanently stuck on 324 Mhz on both gpu's, when I run stress tests the results are strange GPU 2's Memory Clock jumps to 3505 Mhz and GPU1 stays at 324 Mhz?

This seems to me like it is only using GPU 2 on the GTX 690?

Is it just me or does that mean performance is suffering? I tested in on 3d Mark and I score 13 000 with the Graphics scoring between 17 000 and 20 000 but it worries me that these readings are so strange, also on the EVGA Precision tool my FPS dropped from 300 to about 120?

Is my Graphics card perfoming normally? Am I worrying unneccisarily? Games run smove and I have no problem with shutdowns or crashes, card runs at 67 degrees on full load.

Please give me your expert opinions, much appreciated.

What happens when you uninstall the overclocking tool and reboot the computer?

    Uninstall that as well. LOL
NVIDIA Performance Tool AKA NTune has a history of problems.

Uninstall Precision. Uninstall NVIDIA Performant Tool. Uninstall Afterburner (if installed). Uninstall RainMeter desktop widget (if installed). Etc (uninstall all other performance or monitoring tools which have to ability to measure or change video card). Then reboot. Then reinstall drivers. Then only use GPU-Z to check clocks and use no other overclocking or monitoring tools. Then, what do you see?

It's clear that during stress test 1 GPU activates while the other just sits idle doing nothing....both clocks sit at 324 mhz but when stress testing the one jumps up while the other just sits at that same mhz...

I see that NVIDIA System Tools is still installed on your computer.  See "Performance" on the left in your screenshot?  And see "Accept End User...".  Yes, you still have the software installed!

And you are using Precision at the same time NVIDIA System tools is installed?

Why do you still have Precision installed AND NVIDIA System Tools installed?  And you have them both installed at the same time!! It is very bad to have similar software installed at the same time accessing the same information because they conflict and the software goes haywire and buggy!!!  Uninstall ALL of it, reboot your computer, and reinstall your graphics drivers!  It's like I am wasting my time....

"GPU1" in Kombustor screenshot is actually GPU #2.  It is a common bug caused by a known error in NVIDIA's drivers which hasn't been fixed.
GPU #2 shows only 3% usage because Kombustor does not utilize SLI properly.  It is not a thing you need to worry about.

Your card looks like it is working perfectly normal.  The cores down-clock to save power, reduce heat, and extend their lifetime when not needed.  Your one core is down-clocking because Kombustor is not utilizing SLI because Kombustor was not designed to utilize SLI properly.

I removed all and only re installed nvidia performance again after precision was still reading 324 Mhz, I listened to him 100%.

@ty_ger thank you everything you said has been very useful and I saw similar things on forums saying it clocks down to save the GPU - my problem is on the original install of precision it read 915Mhz on both gpu's all the time as stock standard it never showed them dropping to 324 Mhz, only after the overclocking attempts did it start showing this.

    Thanks for your awesome help.

@Scarlet assumption is a very dangerous thing, and as you judge others with the same measure they will judge you so best be careful. (Not cool)

In that case, it was not behaving correctly originally, but now it is behaving correctly.

Just a few things here if you're bent on using Kombustor (or similar): FurMark (the Furry tests in Kombustor), FluidMark, TessMark and ShaderToyMark are all OpenGL applications..Unless an OpenGL application is a commercial video game, you (may) have to tweak a bit to make it CrossFire or SLI compliant..See How to Enable SLI and CrossFire Support for OpenGL Applications and How To Enable SLI and CrossFire Support for MSI Kombustor..First of all and most importantly, you should be testing in Fullscreen mode..The information in the links is rather dated (from 2010/2011) but probably still applies today..Just my .02
