I've just ordered my first 1440p monitor having used a 1080p BenQ TN panel 120hz one for just over 2 years. Really looking forward to gaming on the new one. Just wondering anyone's thoughts on the upgrade, whether the price point - let's say for arguments sake is around £500 is worthy compared to my current 970?

THe 980ti has 6gb of VRAM while the 970 has 4gb of a "different" VRAM variation. It will be worth the upgrade if you're able to throw that money on the table when it comes out.

1440p with a 970 won't get you very far in terms of FPS on high settings so a 980 ti would certainly give you a boost. You could also try another 970 in SLI which would beat a regular 980 but you'd run into SLI issues and then you're still stuck with less VRAM at least until dx12 and VRAM pooling (if its supported/happens)

Hmm yeah I am considering the upgrade, assuming it will be arriving next week. Just the price I'm worried about. Don't think I'd SLI the 970. Always have had a single card. Won't get much for the 970 when the 980 Ti is released anyway!

price is probably going to range from $650-750. I'm betting it falls @ 699. Still a great price even at 750 if you compare it to the titan X.

If I can get a total of £300-350 for my monitor & 970 I'll go for it. £549 I'm placing my bets on

I got a pair of 980's and get the feeling I am going to run out on day one to get the 980 ti. For you a 980ti would be a nice upgrade from a 970. But if you are less picky you will see a lot of 980 cards go up for sale as soon as the 980ti drops.

Adamed91, I'd go for the 980 Ti, especially since you don't want to SLI the 970. Curious, what 1440p monitor did you go with? I'm having an internal battle justifying buying the Asus PG278 144hz monitor.

wait for the Ti I just got this Asus Swift and I can't even play Witcher 2 maxed with a 780 classy best I get is 35 to 40 FPS turn off AA and SS I can get 70 and 80 FPS so your going to need a better card then a 970 unless your going SLI that is but I still would go 980 Ti if it was me.

Granted mines a different model Asus I'm using the PB278Q with my 980 SC and the game handles everything fine at ultra and I get around 50+ish FPS. If i turn hairworks on it drops a bit lower.

Oh, very nice. I like those Dell IPS monitors, my 2012 is still flawless. But I crave 120hz for the new F1 2015 game that is due out very soon. Yeah, for 1440p if I were you I'd for sure spring for the 980 Ti if you can.
