Hello, I had purchased a GTX 1070 SC BlackEdition off Amazon when I was in the US (Oct 10), am in India right now and I wasn't aware the BlackEdition didn't have the backplate nor the white LEDs up front. Only after purchase, through EVGA's site I was aware that it didn't ship with a backplate, but thought it had those LED's as the design was similar. (Thought it was a color difference and no backplate version :P). Updated the bios yesterday and asked for the thermalpads though haven't faced any issue. Would like to know if EVGA would take it back, and replace it with the Standard SC version for the difference in price, or something similar. Thankyou in advance.

Highly unlikely, as your purchase was through Amazon; NOT EVGA. Therefore, they have nothing to "take back." Enjoy your card.

You could register and do a "Step-Up"

Ah yes so true... this way, the card can be enjoyed until their step-up arrives. Which, according to what I've been reading, is taking several months.

WHAT PRODUCTS QUALIFY FOR THE STEP-UP PROGRAM? You can unlock the Step-Up option for any Limited Lifetime Warranty or most 3 Year Warranty products as long as it meets the conditions listed below. Once the Step-Up option is unlocked, you will have 90 days from the original purchase date for your product to start the upgrade process through the EVGA website. Once the Step-up process is started you will receive a confirmation email. - Register your qualifying 3 Year Warranty product purchased new from an authorized reseller within 14 days of your original purchase date.
- If you should happen to miss your 14 day registration window on your qualifying 3 Year Warranty product then you may also purchase an extended warranty within 90 days of your original purchase date to enable the Step-Up option.
- Don't worry, your Extended Warranty and Advanced RMA (EAR) purchases now transfers to your new Step-Up product!
- The EVGA Step-Up program is currently only available to residents of the United States, Canada, and EU Countries.

The lack of a backplate is actually a good thing because, without the proper thermal pads in place, it becomes an oven rather than a heatsink.
With thermal pads in place (after people apply the fix) the backplate helps with cooling.
I honestly think the backplates with no thermal pads caused the primary heat issues. (That and a fan profile focused on silence rather than cooling)

Wrong. With the thermal pad fix, the backplate now acts literally as a heatsink to dissipate the heat on the back of the card from the VRMs. A backplate is required for the thermal pad fix and EVGA should send one to all Black Editions owners.

Try reading a post before you respond to it..... "With thermal pads in place (after people apply the fix) the backplate helps with cooling."

When are they going to include Australia in the step-up program. . . We have a massive community of evga owners here that are missing out on a program that would benefit a large majority of the 9xx - 7xx owners.

That would be a question for their sales team, not an end user like me - http://www.evga.com/about/contactus/

Yes, you think evga could help deliver it those who don't have one with the thermal pads together xD Obv with the extra 10$ or so. It would make things so much better. :)
