If EVGA is changing the design on the 1070/1080s by adding thermal pads. Does that mean that the updated design cards will have a new model number?

Essentially, how can folks know if cards at the retailer include the thermal pads? The whole cards shipped after Nov 1 isn't a really good way to tell.

I agree, it would be smart of evga to release serial number
of fix so we can know if our new gpu has the bios update and
pads installed... before we buy the box...

plus I think it would cost evga a lot more money to change the
model name on box... but that would really make it easy for us
to know we get newest update fixes.

What would really cost them is having all the existing stock of cards shipped back to them from all the retailer's.

It's probably cheaper to make the customer do the DIY fix once they figure out their brand new card does not have the heating pads.
