acebb6 I just received my replacement card today. It came in a sealed retail box and inside you can even see the security tape to prevent tampering. So does this mean I received a brand new card instead of a refurb?
No. The refurbs get new packaging.

I ordered my 1070 Black yesterday from Newegg, and it arrived today. Putting the serial number into the thermal pad request, the EVGA WEB site said I will need both the BIOS and thermalpad update. Kinda bummed about it as I thought I won't have to deal with it.

Hey guys, I think this is my first time posting. Just wanted to say i managed to install my thermal mod, So far so good GTX 1070SC. I notice around 4c drop in temps idling (compared before and after with the new bios) and under load (3dmark dx12 test) highest i saw was 47c with GPU at 100% I used 3dmark to make sure i didn't mess anything up.
Process was fairly simple but a little scary, I had to take a deep breath a few times to stop from shaking. Thanks for the great reads over the last couple weeks, this thread is very informative.

No. The refurbs get new packaging.
Refurbs typically comes in plain brown boxes with the letters EVGA and the serial number. New cards come in new packaging.

Got my thermal mod kit in the mail today for my 1070 SC. Took me an hour to install it (worked very slow and cautiously) with the new thermal paste. Other than the led connector being stubborn enough to warrant using needle nose pliers to unplug it, everything else went smooth and easy. Now with the new bios installed, I can't get the gaming temperatures to go over 60 even if I try. Custom fan curve at 50% at 58c tho! It is a bit louder than before the bios update, but still nowhere near as loud as my 970 SSC was. For anyone who is tentative to install this thermal mod by themselves, if you just read the instructions provided by EVGA..(like 6 times over until you understand them very well), work very slowly and methodically, it is not an issue at all. Make sure you have everything you need before you start, such as Isopropyl Alcohol to clean old thermal paste from GPU and to clean VRAM chips. And small Phillips and Flat Screwdriver. Good Luck!

Do you have a manual? Read before posting. Or simply do a search on google for "how do I know which bios the card is set to". Or look at your card, find a little swicth thingy where it says master/slave. Out of the box it should be in master-mode. If you want to go flash both BIOS, then remember to shut down computer before changing switch position, and remember to use the correct file for the current selected BIOS/switch-position.

akteni Did anyone noticed that there are 2 different thermal pad application guide? When you click on the link provided in the 2nd message from your cell, the guide is quite different than what we see in evga's statement. The one on the phone is more extensive with 5 more steps and it has 3 more thermal pads called VRM pads. I think it asks you to replace VRM pads which are already in place as far as I understand from steps. EVGA, what are you trying to do?? [....]
I think you're actually misreading VRAM as VRM, as in replacing the thermal pads over the memory, which is something we've been including in our Thermal Mod kits that we ship to customers. Only the first shipment, generally, went out before we began including the VRAM pads with all Thermal Mod kits.
We actually have several versions of the Thermal Mod guide, largely depending on when we completed the guide and which cards the guide is created for. If you've been following this process from the beginning, then you'll know that we originally only offered thermal pads and thermal paste to customers that requested the kits. Soon after, we began adding the VRAM pads to the kits, which required a new guide. There is also a guide for GTX 1060s, which is different than the one you posted, due to a slightly different type of installation. However, I'll follow up with our web team during this week to update the site to include current versions of the guides for each set of cards, but it will be a short week for us here in Brea, due to the upcoming holiday.
Hi, Thanks for response. I also noticed thermal pad size thread, which is a very good call. Everybody was asking information in the pages and it had started being frustration. One thing is still missing: thermal conductivity coefficient of your tested products (in gamersnexus). People need to now what sort of performance they will get when they order their pads from a 3rd party brand. Yes, at first glance I misread VRM and VRAM (sorry it was night and I was about to go to bed when I noticed this guide in my cell.) I also couldn't check forum everyday. I noticed this thread when it was on 23rd page. Then I looked at it (around page 59?) after noticing new guide with VRAM stuff because I was fed up with "awaiting shipment" statement after 2 weeks and ordered my pads individually. One question: Do you have FMEA (Failure Mode and Effects Analysis) list? Can we trust EVGA's design department with ACX 4.0 once more? Have a nice holiday,
