So I own an EVGA 1080 SC that I upgraded with the Hybrid kit. I'm assuming this means that my card will not be affected by this? I run a custom fan profile anyway (though not nearly as aggressive since it's just cooling the PCB and not the core) but I'm curious anyway.

Good thing is "Not growing up" is in the core of the EVGA buisiness, Like, Grown up peoples buying cards for playing games. Please be my guest.
GFAFS, mind you, I had exact same situation as you. My first card had faults, RMA'ed and got my 2nd card. during the possession of my 2nd card, whole shenanigan happened. again, I acted as what EVGA thought it was a viable solution. got my parts, updates, and instruction and followed it. now I have what I consider a perfectly working card. I guess it is not fair comparing one person to another, I'm more laid back, crap happens. what you are expecting is a perfect product in a perfect world. none exists. just have to deal with it. now, did you do any of what EVGA was offering when opening two tickets you mentioned? have you attempt another RMA if you haven't already? they'll practically do everything for you and send you the card. I'm seeing your argument vs virtually whole community here, nothing will be solved. you'll just get attacked by more people. or if you seek attention of doing so, I won't stop you. now, I will not reply your future posts. just try to do your best. and yes, angry consumers will be treated differently, not in a good way. been there and done that. be blunt but don't be rude about it, this method works the best for me. perhaps you would have gotten a fixed, working GPU like I have right about now.

vampyren @:ivadjon I totally agree, bios update is fine but for such a premium card i should not have to take it appart and do what they ask us to do even if they claim its optional. All the videos i seen shows that the thermal pads make a huge difference keeping the heat down and without the fan going extremly loud. The whole point when i selected this card was the quiet fans. Now with this bios it can go up to 2200rpm which is crazy. Normally i goes to 1600RPM and with the pads it will be around 86 degree which is totally fine. Hopefully my RMA will also be approved so i can swap this for a new card with the thermal pads. Otherwise its going back to the shop.
You do realize there won't be thermal pads, right? All they'll do is flash the BIOS (30 seconds of effort) and send you back a refurb. But if that's what you want, go for it.
Is this true?
I'll quote myself from the other thread: EVGA has not made any final statement about new shipping cards - the earlier statement was preliminary and subsequent to that statement, the "fix" changed - fan speeds were significantly throttled down from the preliminary fix and still bring VRMs well into the acceptable range. Unless EVGA explicitly now (after the vbios release) announce that thermal pads are included in all shipping cards from here on out, my understanding is that they will not be included. For example, if they include the pads, then the thermal mod is no longer "optional" and it's silly to call it that. If new shipping models include the thermal mod, then all current owners should be able to swap out for units with the thermal mod if they don't want to do it themselves. It would not be the smartest business move - if I was EVGA, I would walk back quickly from any statement that thermal pads will be included or their claimed "fix" of only vbios is disingenuous.
"EVGA has updated its manufacturing line for all these cards to add the thermal pads as standard." Can't post links, but it's on pcmag site.

Again, until EVGA actually says this post vbios release I'll remain skeptical (not saying it's not true) and like I said, it wouldn't be the smartest move unless they want to swap thousands of cards.

I'm being a proactive customer. Granted I too complained to my wife and co-workers about Micron/bios issues, but I didn't embarrass myself here. My card has never exhibited any temp/black screen issues. Twice when trying to find the card's max memory OC (my fault), Checkerboard and BSOD. The first bios update took care of that. I have 3 kids, 3 cats, wife and noisey house, so I run fans at 100% @ 45C. It doesn't bother me one bit. To protect my investment and prolong the life of the card, I took the 2nd bios update and installed thermal pads, that I paid for to prevent further, unforeseen issues. I could have complained and acted like a fool, but I didn't. I took care of everything on my own. That's what adults do.

This is one beautiful card and I would not like to see her burned. I've installed latest vBIOS, procedure done in 10 sek and I'm waiting for those thermal pads. I removed my OC and everything is on stock. Today, after work I've done some gaming and to me it's not noisy, well that high dB is on MAX fan speed? I'm not going to run max fan speed ever so... Nevertheless, this is not a pleasant situation at all. Just imagine someone who's not going to have a spare time at all to hang on YT, EVGA forums and other forums. Ok just imagine that scenario! And one day his GPU is burned to death! All in all, damage is done but damage control is strong which I personally like and support. To EVGA top menagement : Next time please don't play with other people's earned money, some of them are not kids or teenagers, I wish you all the best and I would like this situation to be resolved as quickly as possible.

I wont send it in unless i know for sure there will be thermal pads installed and i get a new card! Thats how this is suppose to work. I didnt pay 700-800 euro for a second hand hard and to be scared to push the card + extra noise. If EVGA dont fix my card i can always return it to the shop and get another. For another week or so i have that option so i hope EVGA takes care of this in the right way. I understand these things happen but whats important is how the company handles it from now on. Sending out pads is not an option. Sorry i dont feel comfortable to open the card like that.

Just wanted to say the new bios improved memory clocking greatly for my 1080 acx sc with Micron memory. Before the bios update, I was unable to do any memory overclock (+200mhz crashed while gaming). After the update I am now able to run +850Mhz stable gaming for hours. Performance also improved. Default gpu voltage after bios update is 1.062v. It boosts to 2100Mhz and ~70% fan results around 55c ingame. (Precision settings to: +100mhz / +850mhz / 120% power target / 92c temp target, stock voltage) Now awaiting thermal pads to apply those as well. Meanwhile I think I am good with these temps. (Netherlands is cold lol) Greets from Amsterdam.

Good thing is "Not growing up" is in the core of the EVGA buisiness, Like, Grown up peoples buying cards for playing games. Please be my guest.
No, not the whole community, just some reps acting as users (classic), nothing to worry about. I think you just got the last few post of mine, i know it's time consuming to read the entire Thread, feel free to do so to get a perfect picture of my opinions and demands. Of course rude I'm not, salty with EVGA maybe, but i have the right to be, fortunately i know where the limits are and passed none. Now about the attention part, yes i want some from EVGA to fix my situation, nothing out of the ordinary i would say.

Does the BIOS update program backup the original BIOS anywhere? Or is there a way to back it up?

No, it does not autobackup. Use gpuz to save a copy of your current bios. It is the box with a green arrow coming out on the right side of the main page.

I am not a rep, so continue to wear your tin foil hat. And let me remind you that anyone who was the rep-out-to-get-you as you claim wouldn't advise you to refund your purchase when you make it clear you don't want the fixes provided, which we all have done. And you certainly have the right to scream and shout within the confines of the forum rules, but equally everyone else has the right to point out how detrimentally it reflects on your persona. Don't forget that.
