Hi guys, I keep getting errors from my new card, sometimes my game(world of warcraft) goes to blackscreen then when the game comes back on the ability icons are sort of scrambled with lines through them, I get a windows error on the desktop but it always closes before I can see what error it was, and I am not sure where to look to retrieve the last error or any errors the computer has had recently ?

The above problem happens only now and then but today the game has started dropping from 60fps to around 11fps and only shutting the game down completely will return the fps to what it was.

Anything you might need for me to assist you if you are able to help me just tell me what to get you and ill sort out screenshots etc.

Please list your full system specs. You can see your computers most recent errors inside the windows event viewer.

Do the following to see if it helps resolve your issue...

#1 Perform a clean boot of windows.

#2 Use DDU (Display driver uninstaller) in safe mode to clean out all your nvidia drivers. Use the clean and restart (highly recommended) option.

#3 Perform a clean installation of video drivers.
  1. Uninstall Precision X/Afterburner if installed, make sure to select "no" to saving profiles if asked.  Reboot the PC now if you had to uninstall PX or Afterburner.
  2. Download & save graphics driver 355.60 to your desktop. Run the graphics installer located on your desktop once the download is complete.
  3. Select custom advanced install, under custom installation options uncheck all options except the physx system software, if you have a 3D capable monitor and would like to use 3D at some point please select both 3D options, check mark perform clean install, then click next to install the driver, reboot when asked.

Re: Unknown error with Geforce GTX 960 2015/08/25 13:11:57 (permalink)
Happened again tonight, well sort of, got black screen then it seemed to recover after a pause.

Not sure if this is helpful:
Display driver nvlddmkm stopped responding and has successfully recovered.

This has happened four times in last few weeks, normally after it does it, the icons are a bit messed up tonight it seemed to recover after a horrible pause mid game fight, then it was ok again.

I have done all of the above suggestions that last one being #2 Use  (Display driver uninstaller) in safe mode to clean out all your nvidia drivers. Use the clean and restart (highly recommended) option.

Which 960 do you have? List the part number. Also what psu are you using? List make and model.

When playing your games are you running any monitoring programs such as precision x, msi afterburner, gpu-z, etc? If so, close them out and try playing the game without them to see if it makes a difference.

Ok, in that case download precision x and set the gpu clock offset & mem clock offset to -160 then click apply. Open the game and test to see if you continue to have issues. Leave precision open while testing.

Ok, either your gpu is defective or your psu isn't putting out stable voltage. Let's check your psu +12v real quick... inside your motherboard bios under pc health status monitor the +12v reading for a few minutes to see if it fluctuates more than .05. If it does fluctuate more than .05 your psu may not be putting out enough stable voltage which could be causing your issue. If your psu checks out to be ok then your gpu most likely needs to be rma'd.

Hopefully its the PSU thats the problem which is probably likely as it is most likely a cheap stock part that came with the computer from PC World and I dont mind replacing that at all cuz I can afford that.

I installed a Program called Speedfan 4.51 but have no clue what im looking for or how to get the info out that you need, sorry im so out of touch with all this.

I only play WoW have only really played League of Legends which is hardly hard on the graphics, It does tend to happen if I rem right on the last encounter in Hellfire Citadel which sometimes has alot going on , I will search forums now and see if anyone else is having problems on that particular encounter.

If you don't find anything your card is most likely defective and will need to be rma'd with evga. How many days have you had the card? If you've had the card for less than 30 days evga will send you a brand new in box replacement if you decide to rma the card with them.

You can still get a replacement card from evga. Cards purchased brand new in box come with a 3 year warranty. All you really need to do is contact evga over the phone and start the rma process. https://www.evga.com/about/contactus/

Gonna call it a night, Thank you very much for all your help I am very grateful for it.

I will take the card out again tomor and make sure one last time that everything is fixed how it should be, if problem persists then I will have to see what I can do about it, certainly not in a posistion to buy a new one so I will check with receipt etc see what my options are if it is a faulty Graphics card.

Hopefully I have attached something wrong and its an easy fix, I would rather look a total fool than pay for new card ...fingers crossed a wire hasnt been in right or something.

so tired I posted this as an edit to last post.. lol

again thank you so very much and I will tackle it again tomor and see what is going on.
