Amazing guide.  With Windows 8 Microsoft should team up with Nvidia and really try to streamline the driver install/uninstall experience.  If you ask pure console gamer why they don't want to get into pc gaming I guarantee you the 2 biggest reasons would be price and maintenance.

I don't need to check 3D Vision, and install it, if I don't have 3D glasses right? Also, if I install HD Audio, do I need to make sure HD Audio in the Bios is set to auto? Will the HD Audio work with my Creative sound card, and driver?

Do NOT install anything but the Graphics driver and PhysX, using a "custom" install with clean install checked

Only users with 3d glasses need the 3d stuff. Stay away from -ever- installing the Nvidia HD audio unless you are using a stand alone audio reciver (HDMI 1.4 compliant). Users of on board sound or sound cards DO NOT need the Nvidia HD audio drivers at all!

Mania,
Love the work you have done. It's most appreciated.  But if I can provide some constructive feedback on the guide and I assume its a constant Work in Progress.

The guide could improve on the cosmetics. eg:
Numbered steps are needed and even bullet points - helps alignment.
Standardized sections and alignment of text
No unnecessary double or single spacing - easy to loose track on the page
Fonts need to be improved and less of them.
To much bolding and Italics. Is too easy to miss a key lines when reading.
Keep color coding to a minimum.

Its just when I read through it I did miss key points just on the basis of the presentation or cosmetic aspect. The analogy from my perspective is like looking in a mixed bag of lollies (sweets) and trying to find the jelly snake...(it's in there somewhere but you know its there)

Damn fine work though.

Thanks for the suggestions, and I agree with you...
But sadly I'm not really a writer and have no experience doing such long posts.
I would like to edit it in some of the ways you have suggested, but every time I try whole blocks of text change in unforseen ways and makes such edits almost impossible.

I am currently working on my BF3/Origin Install and Settings Guide, and I am trying very hard to make it more professional looking.
It remains to be seen if I can pull it off

Thank you for your comments and great suggestions bro

You are most welcome!

What I can tell the editor on this site is very much MS word based. Does writing into Word on the you PC then pasting not work?

I must admit I haven't tested it myself.

Didnt use Word or anything, everything was typed directly into the fourms (except for the Nvidia release notes that were copied and pasted) and I added the screenshots

EVGA GeForce GTX 560Ti DS Superclocked 900 MHz GPU 4212 MHz 256 bit GDDR5.
My system: IntelR CoreTM i7 CPU 930@2.80GHz, 6 gigs of RAM,
BP Chiftec 650 Tues Windows 7 64 ... Put it on test performance in FurMark_1.8.5 Resolution: 1280 x 1024 • MSAA samples: 0 • Window Mode: fullscreen.
Issued • Score: 4500 points!!! Put similar cards Asus 560 Ti. MSI 560 Ti they gave ... Score: 6000 points + - 50 points. Radeon HIS 6870 gave 5400 points!
1,400 points less, and it is 25% less performance that will agree is not very small.
And in 3 DMark-e 11 in the mode of performance level at 1100 points less than their counterparts. Again, a 25% performance nizhe.I in different tests is the same. I'm very disappointed.

Explain please, this defect? Thank you in advance.

The furmark test should not be used anymore, as it really is not a test but a software program that stresses cards.
That wanst the end of the world with the older generation of videocards and systems, but todays modern videocards can be pushed so far above MB/PSU and Videocard Specs, that using Furmark should no longer be done.

The Nvidia drivers have been changed to reflect that, and will now detect  and "auto downclock" when running Furmark, in addition certain cards also have hardware protection against such testing that will limit the voltage to the card itself.
All of which will affect the testing results....

3DMark 11 and Vantage are much better testing software and will provide better results, as long as the drivers are setup correctly. In you case it appears that you need to focas on testing and driver settings if your going to be trying to compare cards. And using a I7 CPU at only 2.8ghz will cause bottlenecking and performance issues when testing, your scores will be much lower than someone else using the same CPU but running it at 4.2ghz....

Also proper method is very important when try to compare testing using a single system, you cannot compare your cards performance to others using different hardware setups.

My guide is for gaming, not for benchmark testing... Those settings would be different.

Cheers.

I often run different drivers on my dual boot system, since each boot is its own OS and driver install

But Its unclear from your post, do you have another OS on your platter -or- are you talking about putting the BF3 install on the hard drive, but still running the OS off the SSD?
This Nvidia 285.38 BETA driver needs to be installed on the OS drive that will be running the game

Cant really comment on the BETA (other than it installed correctly and no issues are apparent), havent done any real testing yet..
Catching up with my posts this morning, before I head into testing

Re:A guide for Installing and Uninstalling Nvidia Drivers for 200, 400 and 500 series card 2011/09/26 19:05:05 (permalink)
excellent guide and thanks so much.
my situation is slightly different when it comes to installing nvidia drivers.
i have an lg 245wp monitor with only hdmi,no dvi.
windows os takes this to be a lcd tv,and once installed everything would be shifted on the screen to the right
what i have to do-to this day, no matter what driver used is i have to mod the inf file like so
AddReg = nv_timingRestrictions_addreg
HKR,,OverrideEdidFlags0, %REG_BINARY%, 1E,6D,24,56,00,00,FF,FF,04,00,00,00,7E,01,00
HKR,, OverrideEdidFlags1, %REG_BINARY%, 1E,6D,24,56,00,00,FF,FF,04,00,00,00,7E,01,00

this is the proper edid info for my monitor, and i have to manually add this line to every section 001 and evey section after that that has the timing restrictions_addreg.
for me to properly install drivers now,i have to download the driver, extract it,mod the inf, then begin the uninstall process
i have tried adding this info straight into the registry but it has never worked for me.
i am curious if anyone else here has to do their installs this way?

Re:A guide for Installing and Uninstalling Nvidia Drivers for 200, 400 and 500 series card 2011/09/26 19:24:46 (permalink)
Yeah, what a bummer...
Way poor LG support for 4-5yr old monitor with bad info on the firmware and no monitor driver update at all.

1920x1200 is tough to find now, which I'm sure is while your holding onto it...

But I have not really seen this issue for years. When you have had enough of it, be assured that such things are over with the newer monitors. Prices are dirt cheap too

it still is an awesome monitor, besides that hdmi issue.i would be hard pressed to find a 24 inch monitor with that quailty of panel nowadays for cheap.
i am looking at getting a dell 30inch for xmas present for myself,-and yes i have checked if it has dvi port
i have looked at 27 inch monitors but i may as well make the jump to the 30

Maniac, I just worked through your install/uninstall guide for the latest beta drivers and things worked great!  I was close in doing it as you suggested before, but I never deleted the old info in the Nvidia driver folders.....and things went swimmingly!  Again thanks and let's get ready for the BF3 Madness my brother:)

Nice guide. I liked the tip about Windows Update and stopping Precision from starting with Windows...went perfect.

Re:Ultimate Nvidia Driver Guide for Uninstalling and Installing driversets 2011/09/30 06:44:31 (permalink)
Maniac i would say, "You sir are a living LEGEND".......However now i've realised from reading this superlative guide that you are, "The Lordbringer of EEEEEKKkkkkk!!" And i have noob installed on my brand new handcrafted rig, a load of PPPFfffttttt-ware.

So i'm gonna finish work and try and rectify the matter post-haste, one point...... a lot of new Mobo's these days come with all sorts of shell programmes do all these need to be closed down first?? In msconfig there is a diagnostic boot option can this be used rather than having to manually close all sorts of apps, or is this a "safe" mode boot??

Thanks for your guide....You are "LEGEND" .....Now i'm going to right royally "Bumpunch" all NVIDIA staff.
