HeavyHemi I don't see how. The game is extremely easy to set up and run. The only issues currently are going to be folks that try to use settings that are too extreme for their hardware. The basic stuff.
After building more BF4 Gaming PC's than anyone else on here (we sell them on Amazon, eBay, websites) most of which all different configs I can tell you right now I can assure you that this guide is very much needed and this game is going to be a PIA to get tuned properly. NVCP, In-game settings, NVGE, etc all give us TONS of options here and room for more FPS. I mean, we are finding as much as 30% more FPS than just running stock settings, and this can take hours of testing without a proper guide or walkthrough. So when you say, "Really easy to set up and use", you are just plain wrong sir. Love to see when guys build one or two pc's and then come on here and try and tell us that BF4 is easy to tune or whatever. Best Regards, Tiger

NemesisChild I just installed BF4 on Win 8.1 the other day ago, was running on Win 7 all along. The game runs a whole lot smoother on 8.1 with much better CPU & GPU utilization. GPU usage: 85-95% (Win 8.1) versus 75-85% (Win 7) FPS: 115-125 (Win 8.1) versus 95-105 (Win 7) All settings on Ultra with AA post turned off.
Yep, no question it runs much better on 8.1. Once my copy gets here for the 3930K machine much more testing will commence. Oh, and I may or may not be waiting on a pair of 780 Ti's as well.

aka_STEVE_b 2 things to mention- if not already thought of ; 1) test settings based on different %percentages of using the "network smoothing" factor settings.... 2) have people check their cores being 'parked' - ( I was getting very often hitching/ stuttering ,almost like lag but just more like frame skipping/stopping - thinking it was graphics too high, I made various lower grfx changes that didn't seem to help-- UNTIL I found a forum talking about how CPU intensive BF4 is and how you should get all your cpu threads to their fullest . I thought I had mine unparked but apparently i did NOT. After going through the short procedure of making all 4 cores, 8 threads unparked - it cleared up my goofy skipping issues. I never thought my x79 i7-3820 chip would be hampered, but it was.)
That might be what I need to try in Windows 7. My 3930K machine (Win 7) honestly runs terribly compared to the 3770K machine (Win 8.1) because it doesn't use the CPU. I'm currently waiting on a copy of Windows 8.1 for the 6-core machine. I may try unparking the cores to see if it makes a difference in Win 7 before I make the switch to 8.1 on that machine.
I was having a similar problem as Steve's and I tried the BF4 profile in Nvidia Inspector ...after I figured out how. This dude helped me Ha, ha. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=syE55-jEzb8

You can be whatever you want to be on the internet. I've been involved with PC's and more advanced electronics for more than 4 decades. That's great you build PC's based on a build sheet crafted for a 6th grade education. The main issue, as per usual, are folks using settings that are beyond what their system is capable of handling at adequate frame rates. Who doesn't know that reducing settings increases frame rates? Is this game somehow unique or is it just popular and creates more buzz? This isn't rocket science. Lastly, I'm not wrong, we just have a different perspective based on experience. Only time will tell if you have any.

I agree, this isn't rocket science folks. Some people just like to make it rocket science because they have nothing else to do.

I for one am very much looking forward to this guide. I have little time to play, let alone mess around with all the settings to determine the best performance vs quality. It's not rocket science but I very much appreciate someone else doing all the "leg-work" for me. If you have the time to figure it out yourself, good for you. Just move along knowing this guide isn't for you and keep your negative remarks to yourself.
Do you not see the irony in posting "they have nothing else to do"?

It literally takes five to ten minutes to adjust settings and test them to figure out what your rig can and cannot handle.

That may be true, but there are a bunch of settings and I'm not really sure which ones have the greatest impact on performance vs quality. I'm just going by what GeForce Experience is recommending for now. I would like to learn more about each setting.

I got a question for you gamers. Do you experience blur and glow when sitting in some places or running? My game does that from time to time. I wonder if it's an bug in the game or a driver related issue? I still wonder if it's my monitor but my other games do not behave like this. I am certain it's the game or the drivers. I am using the latest drivers and i am still stumped why it blurs and shows slight ghost when running or sitting in a area. It only happens random times not frequent? Do you guys experience this in BF4 also or am i the only one? I am due for a new card and monitor just don't have the luxury to afford it. I am looking forward to this guide. I am actually researching how to improve performance with bf4. There are tons of tweaks you can use on the profile save header in document. Which isn't cheating anyways.. it helps performance.

YES!!! I know EXACTLY what you are referring to. Initially I thought it was supposed to be some game effect, like running through fire or something, but it's not. I've seen it while nowhere near combat or anything that you'd expect to produce any types of other effects. It's annoying. On another note..... I would be interested to see more testing done on various FPS from different maps. Pre-patch, Lancig Dam was the worst map for me. Now it seems like it's Hainan Resort. And it doesn't happen ALL the time. Most times, I get an ok 70-100 FPS, but sometimes, on Hainan, it dips down to the 40s for whatever reason. Would be nice to be able to even out the gameplay across all maps.

I noticed this same blurring effect when BF3 first came out. I even saw it in Bad Company 2. I don't know what it is and really thought nothing of it, until you guys brought it up.

I'm experiencing this more often lately, it's very weird. Someone suggested turning off motion blur, just like in BF3, haven't tried it yet though. If I see improvement after making this in game adjustment, I'll report back.

Is the blurring effect you guys are experiencing caused by the enemy commander EMP? It flashes every few seconds while the emp is up.

The only thing I'm really interested in are what effect the console commands (such as render ahead limit) have on smoothness and FPS. Setting that option to 0, 2, or 3 I notice no difference. Setting it to 1 cuts my FPS in half. And I'm producing 100~ FPS, but it surely doesn't feel like it... the game runs like it's at 40 FPS instead. At times it plays like it's at 100 FPS, and other times it just doesn't. No clue why - and the mouse in the menu is always smooth like a 120Hz refresh rate is supposed to show. Apart from that... most of this will probably just be gee whiz info for me.

331.58 is currently the most stable driver for BF4 Users can certainly test whatever drivers they would like and see what happens, but if crashing occurs you will want to go back to 331.58 *users of 500 and 600 series cards are reporting serious issues with drivers higher than 331.58

Wow, i thought i was going alright with the latest drivers (331.93 beta) with a few dips here and there. Then i did a clean install of 331.58 and i'm nearly locked solid @ 120fps with even higher setting in in-game Graphics setting (i'm on win 8.1 btw). Worth a try if you're using a 500/600 series card.

Yes, 331.58 is currently "the" driver for BF4
i just tried downgrading from 331.93 BETA to 331.58 WHQL on a 3770k + 670 SLI setup in hopes of FPS improvements with maxed out settings but, i couldn't use my keyboard or mouse. i was able to move around the mouse within the spawn menu, but clicking LMB or RMB didn't seem to do anything; keyboard key presses seemed to be unrecognized although i was able to ALT+TAB out of the game to quit. :( this happened in the test range map and right before it launched the game, it did give me a warning message stating that the drivers are out of date and that 331.65 or later drivers are recommended but, i just hit ok and it continued to load the game fine. anyone with the same issues? or suggestion? anything is much appreciated! :) PS: on a side note, i used nvidia inspector to export the BF4 profile from the 331.58 drivers then clean installed 331.93 BETA again. after a reboot, i imported the saved profile to nvidia inspector. i was hoping that importing the profile would give me 331.58 driver performance but, i wasn't sure if i successfully did this as i'm pretty much a noob when it comes to SLI/inspector (i got my 2nd 670 just about 4-6 days ago)

i just tried downgrading from 331.93 BETA to 331.58 WHQL on a 3770k + 670 SLI setup in hopes of FPS improvements with maxed out settings but, i couldn't use my keyboard or mouse. i was able to move around the mouse within the spawn menu, but clicking LMB or RMB didn't seem to do anything; keyboard key presses seemed to be unrecognized although i was able to ALT+TAB out of the game to quit. :( this happened in the test range map and right before it launched the game, it did give me a warning message stating that the drivers are out of date and that 331.65 or later drivers are recommended but, i just hit ok and it continued to load the game fine. anyone with the same issues? or suggestion? anything is much appreciated! :) PS: on a side note, i used nvidia inspector to export the BF4 profile from the 331.58 drivers then clean installed 331.93 BETA again. after a reboot, i imported the saved profile to nvidia inspector. i was hoping that importing the profile would give me 331.58 driver performance but, i wasn't sure if i successfully did this as i'm pretty much a noob when it comes to SLI/inspector (i got my 2nd 670 just about 4-6 days ago)
ahh, that has happened to me now and then. I didn't connect it to the drivers, but it does make sense since it has only happened a few time after downgrading. Hrmn, if that's the cause and it seems likely now that i think of it, i would have to guess it would have to do with the little message that pops up after launching a game warning about out of date drivers somehow losing focus of the game after loading. If you wait for the round to end when unable to interact, you regain access after the map unloads and shows round awards and user stats. Not sure exactly to fix it if this is the case - something to do with the quickness of clicking the popup? EDIT: Ok, whatever is causing the issue, it seems to be related to the Battlelog User Settings. To temporarily fix - in Settings Under General, GAME LAUNCH - "Focus game when loading is complete". Simply toggle the switch and hit save and it seems to fix the input issue for me.

UPDATE: I am in the process of moving across the country to a new home in Florida. I expect to back up and running on or about the 5th of January... As soon as I am settled into my new home, this BF4 Guide will be my primary focus until it is completed. I have been in transition with my life and living arrangements and have been unable to devote as much time as I would have liked, but I am looking forward to my new home in Orlando and finishing this Guide. See you guys soon... Laters till then
