Awsome post bro. I play only bf3 atm because it is the only game I can truly afford to play and my RIG is garbaged compared to ya'lls. It is hard for me to keep steady 50+fps while playing for some reason. I am currently using an EVGA GTX 560 Superclock(NOT THE TI VERSION), and sometimes drop below 30fps at times. I am sure it is because of my other computer specs but there isn't much I can do about upgrading yet. Here are my PC specs if you think of anything else I could do to enhance performance for bf3 multiplayer...

Asus M4N75TD 750a nVIDIA mother board
AMD Athlon II X4 635 @ 2.9Ghz Processor
6gig of ram at 13333mhz. (The ram is mixed though)2gig of corsair 16000mhz and 4gig ultra 13333mhz
Cool Master 460 Power Supply
150Gig SATA II (I think) HD
Evga GTX 560 Superclocked(NOT THE TI VERSION)
ALL STOCK COOLING including the heatsink on my CPU
Windows 7 64-bit Ultimate

I am currently using all the settings your have for NVCP. In BF3 settings I am still messing around with it but I am ultimately trying to get the best performance I can with using possibly high settings. I already know ultra settings won't work. Overclocking isn't really an option for me because I can't upgrade ANY hardware due to my situation. So the only thing I can do safely is mess around with my NVCP settings and BF3 Settings. Maybe some other settings as well. I regularly run a FULL SYSTEM virus scan almost every other day, I use Spybot Search and Destroy atleast once a week, I use CCLeaner, and I try to keep my harddrive defrag as much as possible.

As I said above I can run BF3 with a good 50+Fps but there are times where I drop below 30 FPS and my game begins to seem like it is lagging. I am trying to avoid having to use medium or below settings so if there is anything else I can do before adjusting my BF3 settings any lower I would much appretiate the input.

Thanks in advance for the information...

Hey Maniac,

Awesome guide. I can only imagine how long it look to put all this together.

I just wanted to run something by you. With my PC specs below + your exact settings from the guide, what kind of FPS should I be looking at?

Q6600 OC @ 3.0ghz
nForce 650i Ultra mobo
6gb Ram
Nvidia 560 Ti

I'm running the 290.53 Beta Nvidia Drivers. I get this really strange stuttering even at FPS of 30+. Turning off raw mouse input and motion blur did improve the performance a bit, but it still occurs, that and in big maps like Siene Crossing and whatnot my FPS dip to 25 and below. I have my setting matched to your exact recommendations, everything on HIGH, with deferred AA turned off, motion blur off,  ambient occlusion off, vsync off, and raw mouse input off.

Is my CPU bottlenecking the card? I've been monitoring the GPU usage while in-game and it maxes out at certain points at maybe 70%, never max. So it looks like the GPU is not under full load, what could be causing these low FPS numbers and stutters in big maps? Is it the CPU?

Any information/advise is greatly appreciated!

You could drop your MESH, EFFECTS and TERRAIN DECORATION down one notch.
Whats really holding you back with the GPU use and min framerates is your CPU bro....
Try lower player count servers, for improved performance is your best shot

Thanks for the info dude! I had a feeling it was my CPU.

As a note, I turned all my settings off/low to see what kind of FPS I'd get in a big map, and it still says until 25FPS!

This has to be an indication that it's the CPU. In the benchmark video below the dude is running a 560Ti on an i5  and getting constant 60FPS, the only time it dips (to 30-40) on an i5 is on ultra.

EDIT: so I can't post links yet, but that's the video.

so whats the verdict on the new beta drivers any good. oh and do any of you have random crashing issues in the game. seems the nvidia drivers up and die randomly. sometimes at the start of a match and sometimes 4 hours into playing. i have not found a cause for it yet have read your guide, and changing the settings did not seem to fix it.

any help on this issue would be great. have lost a lot of gear becuase of the way the game saves points, and unlocks. crashing out makes it so they dont save.

there are still some unpatched (non Nvidia driver) issues with the "game" for many users...
Dice will have to patch to correct them, as they are game based.

As for multiplayer points, patches and unlocks (depending on the quality of the server and its EA master server reporting setup) when crashing, most often you "do" get credit for these things based on your last "death" in the game....
You only lose what happened since your last spawn.

Hey how is the 120hz guide going mate?

I have really starting to get problems with 120hz. Even when i switch it back to 60hz i get blurryness and tearing.

With 120z the tearing goes away the most but still i have the micro blurry graphics especialy at far range and most time inside buildings i see the color changing of some pilars when i look around.

Hey Maniac. Thanks for the guide.  I am running on a 580 gtx with a Q9550 CPU @ 2.8 ghz, 8 gbs ram, 750 w ps. I've been on the forums asking people why my BF3 keeps crashing. I've found out that my settings were the cause of it after having reinstalled drives, tweaking voltage and countless other things. When I set my settings to low with everything off (AA, AO, MB), it seems to run fine. I was able to play for at least an hour or so. Then when I cranked everything up to ultra settings, my game crashed in the next 5 minutes. I also tried setting it to low after it crashed, but the game crashed over and over. Checked my GPU's temps and they were between 60 - 70 degrees. Any reason why this is happening? It seems to run fine when I let my card rest for a couple hours. But it definitely crashes when I set it to ultra from the start. I also set it to the settings you had in your guide but same thing happening. Any help would be appreciated.
Forgot to mention that it's a 580 GTX SC

-James

I run almost the same setup (with the exception of the vid card) and have no issues with BF3.  Everything on high, HBAO on and getting around 40-50FPS in a full 64 player server.  I used Maniac's setup guide (muchly appreciated) and have not had one problem of lag/crashing.  Using 285.62 drivers until the new ones are WHQL certified.
Those who say this is a bottleneck setup are mistaken.
GPU temps very rarely go above 65 with no overclock and no fan adjustments, stock right out of box (except I upgraded/flashed the BIOS card from EVGA found in these forums)

Manic....been reading your thread. Nice work.  I'm currently running a Evga GTX 470sc. Was considering adding another 470sc(but it would be used).  Other option would be to grab a GTX 560 Ti 2win for $519 or grab 2 GTX 560 Ti 2gb for $538.  I just want my BF3 to look awesome while playing and high FPS.   With were nvidia is now with drivers...which option would you suggest for best performance? (open to other options as well)
Evga X58 3x SLI mobo

Get the second 470 for now if your in a huge hurry...
Stay away from the 560 2Win and 560Ti's, as the cost is just not worth it with Keplers coming in 4-6 weeks, with MUCH better performance for those prices.

Dual 470's would give you a great performance increase for very cheap -right now-

Personaly, I would save the money for a kepler.. as (1) will be as strong as dual 470's, and you could always SLI it later

Thanks Manic!  I will pick up a 2nd GTX 470sc.  I'm assuming the Kepler must be the new platform I've heard about....GTX 680 or something.  Hopefully it won't be $749 to start.  I'll grab one of those when they come out.

If I can only find a GTX 470 (not sc), think I'd notice the difference in performance?   I would suspect that the SC card would downgrade to match the vanilla card.

You can easily set your vanilla card to the SC specs and see if it's stable. There's a 99.9% chance that it will work. Then you can shop for any 470 you can find.

+1 on using any 470 model, as the clocks will match whatever card version is in the primary slot

awesome guide. had some settings as suggested.
I have a question:
why sometimes when I look around and then look back to the
part i was looking at before it kinda looks like it has some
"black lines" around the textures of some objects.
let's say i look at a building, then i look at my back and then i decide to look at the same building i was looking at the beggining. the building will look kinda gray and will have black lines around it. it kinda looks like a cartoon or something.
it is mostly on far objects that are proly 100/200 meters away from me.
it happens some times on any map.
like this:

you see on the right side of the hand-gun where there is some wood there. that's the lines i'm talking about.
note*:that's not my picture or in0game settings.
thanks for the help.
