Am I running the Latest BIOS?
Flashing the latest BIOS was the first thing I did two weeks ago when receiving my latest RMA.  So I know an outdated BIOS is not the problem.

As far as USB devices that I plug in, here you go:
Logitec NulOOQ
Spyder 3 Elite
and I have tried both my Microsoft Wireless Optical Mouse, as well as an old USB, generic logitec mouse.
This problem has occured when only the mouse has been plugged in, so I know the Logitec nor the Spyder is the problem.

What Power Supply am I running?
Corsair HX1000
This also occured when I had an older 700W power supply running to troubleshoot if the UPS was the problem.

New Audio Driver as a Possible Conflict
I have the on board audio disabled, as I now use a Create Labs X-FI XtremeGamer card.  This problem happened before I installed the card, as well... but to night I will uninstall the onboard driver just in case.  I will keep you all posted.

Possible Idea?
I have noticed a lot of us are using a CoolerMaster Case... I am using the 690... is there a possible problem with the front hub chord that CoolerMaster uses?  I know this is ridiculous, but since we are starting to scrape the bottom of the barrel of ideas and commonalities...

I myself have CM HAF 932 and use the front panel. I have my Vapochill control card hooked up through it as well as a 500gig USB external and a 4gig flash as well as a usb floppy. All work with no issues. As I stated before, I msnuslly set IRQs so it may be something to do with that.

I am reporting I am having the same problem too. But I have the 750i FTW mobo.

MX518 Mouse
Basic Dell USB Keyboard

Those are the only 2 USB devices I have plugged in.

This sucks bad!

I am noticing a lot of ppl W/Cooler Master cases here, is there anyone who didn't have a Cooler Master case W/front (or top) panel USB ports plugged in? I did.

Edit: Someone please try removing the Cooler Master USB plug. 96accord
do you have Cooler Master?

ShockTheMonky you dismiss things too easily, you may not have another commonality such as you may have an older board revision build.

That still doesn't rule out the possibility of the source of the problem, as Antec front panel USB connectors may be supplied from the same source.

This is really a continuation of an older parallel thread, here:

Please post here if you too are experiencing USB drop outs/freezes

Perhaps we should be posting there instead? Could we have a moderator merge these threads?

X-MAN

I do not have this problem, but I did read about it on Technet.
If you have an nVidia Chipset there is a Hotfix from MS -> http://www.microsoft.com/...ED9&displaylang=en

"You may encounter problems when you move data over USB from a Windows 7-based or Windows Server 2008 R2-based computer that has an NVIDIA USB EHCI chipset and at least 4GB of RAM"
I hope this is helpful:)

X-MAN we don't have nVidia chipsets, but someone has already tried that fix anyway here:

I just called Customer Service and we'll see what they will do about this from a CS angle.  I explained the history of my problems, and that this is a wide spread issue on their own company forums.
I am anticipating a call back from a Product Specialist.  I'll keep you all posted.

guys i was experiencing this so swapped out my G5 for a Steel Series Xai, i had no dropouts with a weeks worth of use with the setpoint software running or not,  i didnt like the Xai so bought a G500 so far no issues either although Im no where near as accurate in COD which is slightly annoying it has fixed the problem.

Next thing im going to try is using my G5 on my work machine to see if it drops out there as one thing nobody has suggested yet is maybe the usb ports on the mobo are actually making hardware faulty?

Long shot but i'll test this theory out.  In the mean time guys try swapping out the peripherals for a week or so to test.

Well, I unfortunatly do not have a couple hundred extra dollars to try out a different GPU.  I'm using the GTX260, and my only other option is an old 128mb nvidia card that came with my P4 almost 8 years ago.

I think you miss understand bud,  the G5 is a logitech G5 mouse, i swapped that for the Steelseries Xai and all my problems went away, i then went to the Logitech G500 mouse and still no problems, try using a cheapo £3 mouse for a while to see if that eliminates the problem.

I have stated in the other thread,  we have tested for this issue  (myself personally)   and have not exhibited any of these dropouts.

I do believe you have an issue,   but it could be one of many things.

  1. Bad front panel USB header
  2. PSU issue
  3. USB/external device issue
  4. Addressing conflict
  5. OS issue (putting ports to sleep)
mind you this is just 5 of the issues that can cause these sort of strange occurences.

Shannon,
Thank you for your responce.  I don't know if you remember me, but we had spoken on the phone regarding my first board that was RMA'd.

Regarding your thoughts:
1. This evening I will be unplugging the front panel header in order to troubleshoot this possibility.  In the other thread, we have recognized this as a possibility.
2. I have experienced this with 2 different PSU's.  My current one is brand new Corsair 1000HX.  The previous one was a 700W modular.  I can't recall the make off the top of my head, I can supply that later. XFX rings a bell.  But the point remains, this problem has existed with two PSU's with adequate wattage.  Also, this problem has occured with many other people using other models of PSU's.
3. I have tested this twice with two different makes of mouse, a Microsoft Wireless Optical Mouse 2.0, and a generic old Logitech.  Each time, this was the only USB device plugged in.  Both times, this error happened.
4.  I am not familiar with this, could you please elaborate.
5. I have deactivated the Energy saver feature of Windows 7, and it persists.  It also happened when I was running Windows XP, and running a live disk of Ubuntu.  I did the live disk of Ubuntu to test if it was a microsoft issue, or a microsoft driver issue.

I understand 96accord and can assure you EVGA are up there with the best for support i have owned many boards from Asus, gigabyte and the likes and none of them have a support forum like this or the support staff,  I have 2 striker extremes on my garage floor because Asus were just too painful to deal with it wasnt worth my time to try and get a resolution.

EVGA have been very helpful to me and Arne offered to RMA the board for me with no hesitations but i persisted with it and have found a solution, its just a shame my solution doesnt seem to work for everybody.

Re:USB's all stop responding 2010/02/03 13:48:52 (permalink)
This issue is not limited to Logitech's hardware.  It may be selective for the few of us, but it seems to be limited to the X58 chipset and possibly another.  Logitech, in one of their threads had pointed out they were discussing some of the problems with NVIDIA and attempted to discuss it with Intel but they haven't heard anything back yet.  This issue hasn't happened with any of my previous motherboards, before jumping to the X58 chipset.

With regards to cases - I have the Enermax Uber Chakra case and this wasn't a problem with my previous nForce 590 and 780i chipsets in this same case.  It's not a case/front panel issue or a PSU issue.  I have the HX620, the same PSU I've used with my 780i and no issues arose then.

My peripherals are the Logitech G15 keyboard and Razer Mamba mouse.

I've noticed that when the USB mouse stopped functioning during my game once, my keyboard was still functioning (I could strafe, press Esc to pause, etc.) but the mouse had to be disconnected and reconnected before it could resume functioning properly.

The X58 chipset has been in consumer production for in excess of a year. It's no new thing.

Main (gaming) rig: i7-3930K; Asus Rampage IV Extreme; H100 W/p-p Excaliburs, AS5; MSI 7870 2GD5/OC; Crucial M4 SSD 256GB.
See my primary ModsRigs: Adam for the rest, and I have a second (wife's) rig Asus Rampage III Extreme & 960: Eve.

Overclocking is useless to me if it is not rock stable.

Shannon could you give us details on how to manually set the IRQ's as i believe for most users they would never have manually set IRQ's before.... Also i think a picture of you would help us all fix are problem :)

I've noticed that when the USB mouse stopped functioning during my game once, my keyboard was still functioning (I could strafe, press Esc to pause, etc.) but the mouse had to be disconnected and reconnected before it could resume functioning properly.

your situation sounds quite simple.    your not dropping usb's at all,   windows is just losing ID with them.   and re connecting is re-initializing them.
