I remember a while back when windows 8 came out EVGA supplied there custumers with an UEFI firmware. Is there any chance they will do the same for the GTX 970 FTW+?

The 970 already comes stock with a UEFI BIOS, so there's no need for a BIOS update.

So you are saying the UEFI is the main bios on the card? Is it on both bios chips? What about people who don't have uefi on there mother boards...how are they running these cards? is it a  Hybrid BIOS?

The UEFI firmware is on any and all BIOS chips in the 900 series cards (as with all 700 series cards from the GT 740 and higher).  Most motherboards that do not use UEFI still work with them, although it's best to make sure the motherboard BIOS is fully up-to-date.  Some of the older AMD and nForce boards may have issues, but it's not a guaranteed compatibility issue.  As with the GT 740's and higher, most of the OEM pre-built machines that run Windows 7 would not be compatible, even if the PSU is upgraded.  That's more because of the stripped down motherboard they chose than anything else.

For example, I have a pair of 980's in SLI on an X58 board, which clearly does not use a UEFI BIOS.

Yup, UEFI is already built in on the default shipping BIOS.
