I have two wonderings about the GTX 780 Ti Classified I have.

a) There never seems to be any GTX 780 Ti Classified backplates on sale on EVGA's online store, on Amazon, etc.,  Would the standard GTX 780 Classified backplate fit onto the 780 Ti Classified?  I've been looking for a while (it was one of the reasons I waited so long to get the Ti Classified).

b) I've tried OCing the 780 Ti Classy. The absolute highest I can get is 1229 (1098 / 1163, then it boosts on its own to 1229).  The GPU's ASIC is 64.6%.  Is this normal / OK?  I see lots of 1300s on air, so this is a bit worrying.

ganzosrevenge,
The gtx 780 Classified backplate should fit on the 780ti Cassified card, Which has been confirmed on a previous thread (http://forums.evga.com/780-backplate-and-780-ti-m2055631.aspx).

That post just confirms that the Reference 780 Backplate fits the Reference 780Ti, not the Classified versions
the OP is talking about.

The 780 Classified Backplate will indeed for the Ti Classified.

Are you using the stock bios, Ln2 bios, or an updated bios from EVGA? if you are using the original Ln2 bios that came with the card, I would Highly suggest sending EVGA tech support an email and request the modified option bios. This bios allows a pot more head room and stability to be attained.

Awesome.

I have all BIOSes at stock.  I asked for the updated / modified BIOS and was told by Eduardo H. that it wasn't needed unless I had an EVBot, and when I emailed Chris in re: to it, I was basically ignored.  It's my one sticking point with EVGA because I want to try the BIOS to see if it helps (in any way) with my card's poor OCs (It won't go past 1229 max boost).

I think Eduardo is entirely wrong. I don't have an evbot, and the optional bios performs completely different than even the second bios the sent out.

If they are going to ignore you, send them the serial number and I will forward you the bios through email, or they can send it to you themselves.

Re: Two 780 Ti Classified Questions 2014/09/14 10:12:19 (permalink)
Jason Ganz, thank you for contacting the EVGA Customer Service Team. My name is Spenser Alexander and I will answer your question today.

Your Answer:

Hello,
I've attached both the stock and LN2 BIOS versions for this card. These would be what typically ship flashed onto BIOS 1 and 2 respectively. They have been renamed to allow sending through our servers. You will need to rename the file extension to a .zip, save and then extract normally. Then just go in the folder and run the update.exe file. It's recommended to first close out any background programs. Please keep in mind there is risk involved any time you flash the firmware on a device, and be sure to not power off the system or interrupt the process in any way until it is completely finished.

Regards,
EVGA Support

Your Question:

Hello.

My name is Jason Ganz, and I'm writing to request the EVGA GTX 780 Ti Classified Optional BIOS.
My GPU Serial # is *edited for security*

If any other info is needed with regard to the GPU, please do not hesitate to let me know.

Thanks,

Jason S. Ganz

I then wrote back and got this

*edited*, thank you for contacting the EVGA Customer Service Team. My name is Eduardo Huerta and I will answer your question today.

Your Answer:

Hello,

The original post on that thread that was linked, mentioned that the Optional BIOS that is available from EVGA is to fix the compatibility with an EVBot device which we sold at one time for overclocking.

The specific post you referenced, points to another forum where they are discussing customer modified BIOS versions written by a 3rd party.  EVGA does not have any customer BIOS like the ones discussed there.  If you decide to flash one of these custom BIOS versions from a 3rd party, then you do so at your own risk.

The only BIOS version that we currently have on file, were already emailed to you.  I do apologize, but there is no other BIOS for the 780 Ti Classified that are available from EVGA at this time.

Regards,
EVGA Technical Support

Your Question:

isn't there a third BIOS, as seen here: http://forums.evga.com/Optional-BIOS-for-GTX-780-Ti-Classified-and-GTX-780-Ti-Classified-KNGPN-cards-m2105132-p3.aspx

that can be flashed for the 780 Ti Classified?

(Once I realized my error in the pagination... apparently Eduardo's not able to flip back through pages... I re-armed myself and asked the part down below)

Hello,
I want to try the "Fixed LN2 BIOS".  My GPU won't overclock past 1098 / 1163 in Precision X.  I want to try this "fixed" BIOS to see what happens.

My SN is *edited for security*  (GTX 780 Ti Classified - non-Kingpin)

I have the tools needed to flash the bios.

Thanks

Re: Two 780 Ti Classified Questions 2014/09/17 19:48:02 (permalink)
I finally got the "optional BIOS" from EVGA.  However, my PSU is getting an upgrade from an RM850w to a Seasonic XP3 1050w Platinum.  Hopefully this will help feed power to the Classy that keeps it happy.  So I haven't done any OC yet, but I have noticed my idle temps are 3 Deg Lower than with the factory LN2 BIOS.  This makes me raise the question...

I understand nVidia greenlight keeps BIOSes from being mental... but with a double BIOS card, you have the "nvidia compliant" BIOS on there.  Why not just put this BIOS on the GPU in the first place in the "LN2 position"?  Does nVidia get final say on BOTH BIOSes?
