Many time coil whine can be fixed by running a benchmark over night.

Whether you have a $100 or a $3000 card, coil whine can be present. It's frustrating, but it's part of electronics and not many people report an issue on a Titan X.

Which thermaltake power supply do you have exactly?

A little dab of glue on the coil that is whining can stop the noise.

You have to have a set amount of post before you can post links. Is it the gold rated psu? That was all I was curious about.

Increasing the voltage on the card could make it become quieter too.

Try overclocking or raising the voltage on the card.  lots of times that will get rid of the whine. It's all about the frequencies and doing one of those will change how much power it gets and removes the noise.

Send it back. You should not have to deal with cheap parts causing coil whine on the EVGA Titan X.

If you are water cooling your Titan X and it has Coil Whine it would be the first Graphics Card under water that was reported to have Coil Whine that I have read. I would look for the cause like a bad motherboard or a bad power supply or even a bad AC Socket and so on.

I agree in the power supply. I have only experienced could whine when my cards were severely under fed power, and then once i upgraded the psu, it completely went away instantly. If you have the money for a new psu and you don't mind trying that, it could be a good step to take for your entire system.

The card recommends a 600w psu. If your 750w 80 bronze is getting 80% efficiency then you are not going to be getting clean power like an 80+ gold or platinum could get.

Everyone has covered the important issues very well.

A strong well regulated PSU, good regulation of voltage coming out of your AC socket (try another socket not on the same circuit breaker) and good component balance helps aid your system in reducing the whine.

However, if you are convinced that the coil whine is not acceptable contact EVGA tech support.

His reference is to the Titan, not the 980. Many, MANY, 9 Series have had coil whine.

2 out of the number of NON-HC is still really, really low.
But lets keep it on Subject.

Like I said, a low rated power supply can cause issues. Good thing you didn't RMA the card, or the next one would have had the exact same symptoms.

Enjoy your card :-) glad to hear it was the psu.

I thought the Corsair ATX 760 I bought for my mini itx system was going to massively over kill, after reading this thread I think I made the right decision. Plus its nice to have a little overhead to keep things as quiet as possible. Hopefully I will have my Titan X by the end of the week and my order from EK shouldn't be that far behind, its already in Honolulu just one more flight over the pond.

Having the same problem here on an EVGA Titan X SC, the coil whine is audible particularly in GTAV without frame limiting at 60 (and faintly even if locked at that), other games not so much. I'm quite disappointed that a premium graphic card that boasted "no whine" components is having this issue.

    I've a Corsair AX860 as a PSU and I didn't have any problem with the previous 780TI.

I'm at loss as I don't know if to RMA or not... I think I'll wait a few days to see if it stops eventually but It seems rather hopeless.

Try running Unigine Heaven benchmark overnight, at maximum settings, and see if it helps reduce the noise.

Over Volt the card no more then 0.12mv like I did it seems the coil whine on avg went down 40%. I don't know the stock voltage on your card i'm using the GTX 970 SCC ACX 2.0.The Voltage stock is 0.8620 idle and in games it moves around from that to 1.2011 the highest I seen with the 0.12mv bump, there should be no coil whine, I will be buying a new board in couple days because I had problems with this junk P67 Sabertooth B3 with VGA's. I sent back 5 cards for bad coil whine while evga said they dint have coil whine on there end.

My EVGA Titan X sounded like a saw, and was unbearable. It actually sounded like one of those old bar signs, with their constant buzz. "Luckily"? it died, and I'll be getting a new one soon.

It was far louder than my vardars at 1800rpm and even 100 hours of GTA V didn't get rid of it.

Mine was under water with 1.25v. Using an EVGA P2 1000.

Thank you for the Reply Scarlet, I'll do as you advise but after a few burnins with GTAV it is now less screamy. Anyway my situation is not that bad as the noise is now audible only in a silent room at night, still bothers me that after a hefty price it's not perfect but It seems that, from what Smokey said, could have been a lot worse.

I guess I'll RMA if it starts screaming again

when you have the money (should now, if you bought a $1k+ GPU) you should really consider purchasing a gold rated power supply.  the efficiency will help your entire system, and since they are not all that expensive, it would be a good thing to invest into.

Sadly, getting a better PSU doesn't the solve coil whine.
My Titan X also have some coil whine on it, and that's using a Corsair AX1500i (which is Titanium rated).

Although, it only happens whenever the frame rate goes above 2000 fps (yes, 2000) in 3D-Mark benchmarks.

And whenever that happens, the coil whine is so loud that the first time i heard it, i actually thought a capacitor or something was about to blow up inside the case lol.
