Humans were never meant to live forever - it's selfish. We are born, we live and we die and hopefully we leave a legacy behind us. Its selfish to want to live forever but I can see why they would want it.

Humans were never meant to live forever - it's selfish. We are born, we live and we die and hopefully we leave a legacy behind us. Its selfish to want to live forever but I can see why they would want it.
I disagree. While we are physically fragile, the actual electromagnetic form of our consciousness could be sustained for near infinite time with the proper containment and energy input. Whilst on the other hand, an near infinite existence might become tedious to some personas, while others would thrive, grow, and prosper. We the human race are at the first step of a new evolution, one formed, directed, and dictated, by our own thoughts and desires, and enabled by our recent technological strides. With time I believe our human/computer/AI interface will enable a virtual eternal existence, that will evolve into a large collective, formed on individual nodes of consciousness. But, what started with us humans will become a very different thing, perhaps so different that we can little imagine it, much as an ant contemplating a skyscraper, able to envision a vague shape, but realizing almost nothing of the true internal construct and workings.

I've been reading about this for a while, they talk about new breakthroughs in human health on TED Talks TV. We are making awesome improvements in physical health and increasing the ability to live longer. The problem is, we are actually seeing a huge increase in mental health or as one called it, brain disorder issues especially past the age of 60.

Imo, the world is already over populated with humans. Capability to sustain more of us or not there are simply too many. Can you imagine what the population would explode to were this true and available (monetarily and physically) to a large portion of the human race?
I can see this going many bad ways.

Gene manipulation does not mean immortality. It means risk mitigation. People will always die. Get hit by a truck, fall and hit your head, drowned in a pool, etc...

I can see this going many bad ways.
It's a flawed premise. Reproduction numbers are the problem you're posing not longevity numbers. If anything the time between generations slowing down would make the population grow much less, not more.
