10/10 would pay to see what would happen (use a dead pig test subject like they do on mythbusters?)

This kind of stuff is idiotic. It is no wonder we pay so much for our health care. We have so many of these machines that we get a bunch of idiots to test what happens when we put a chair in it. It amazes me that this magnet would obliterate a stapler, really. Sometimes we should just not do these things. Maybe we can see what would happen if someone threw their gaming rig into it. I get that6 would be worth seeing rather than these useless chairs, wrenches, and staplers. I guess that gaming rig has too much value. Not very amusing. I also hope no one ever has the x-ray shown above. It is not funny nor it is amusing. It is always funny when it is someone else, but have some respect and think about like it was you.

I think this is a unit that isn't used and taken out of commission. They are so expensive. I've wondered what they could do. Thanks for posting.

Thanks for understanding. In my 25 years in health care I have seen at least 100 of these installed. I figured this was an old one, but these should be ripped down and then used for replacement parts and not sold to anyone who wants to do stuff like this with it. If used for replacement parts, maybe some of these can have longer lives and thus lowering the need to always purchase the newest one available. It could also be sold to a third world country who really need these kind of items. The Ebola virus spread in part because the health care workers had a limited supply of rubber gloves. Rubber gloves, really? Why can we not get rubber glove to these area of the world. I know there is corruption and that is the major reason, but common lets find a way. It could also make them more available to more areas of the US which may not have easy access to one of these machines.

It was an old unit that was being decommissioned. Scientists wanted to show the dangers of having magnetic objects near the machine. The video will be used as a teaching tool. No parts can be used as spares in modern machines.

When I had a stimulator in me (like a pacemaker) they said no MRI . That's why pins , screws and joints use titanium . But I still wouder why is it ok to wear jeans/pants with metal zippers & riveted pockets when I got MRIs ?

Don't know about yours, but my jeans the metal used for those is not magnetic. I've had an MRI before though and I went in with jeans and a t-shirt but had to remove belt, wallet, etc. and put them in a box in the control room
