Is there an AMD board and CPU that are even close to the x99 platform? Can you run sli instead of crossfire? Looking for very fast data transfer for hd also no marvell chip. Any replies would be great as my knowledge of AMD is very lacking.

Stick to Intel. AMD tried in the last couple of years to blow Intel out of the water but they not only was unable to but they sort of broke their creed to keep the chips cheap.

Not even close to Z97, much less X99.

the FX 9950 will compete with an i7 2600k at best in multi treaded apps, but in gaming its comparable to a Phenom II X6 1100T which compared well to an i5 760. AMD is a good buy at the lower end only, an FX 6300 and 970 motherboard are only about 150 bucks and are a great value, but above that intel really just dominates.

The problem is, the 990FX chipset for AMD has not really been updated in a LONG time... Their best board is the the Asus Crosshair V, it only supports PCI-E 2.0 and they still want a lot of money for old tech. All of AMD's focus is on the FM2+ and soon to be FM3 socket at the moment. If you are trying to build something like a HTPC, the A10-7870K is a solid choice.
