Hay gaise...

So... I don't know if I should make the move or not. Lots have changed since I last updated you guys with my system configurations, so I'll start over again!

I have two builds, always had two and will always have two builds (paranoid about one going down and having downtime). It used to be a primary and secondary system, with the primary having more power than the secondary, but now I'm putting similar amounts of power into both systems.

My first system consists of a 3770K, 8GB RAM, and an R9 290 (yea bash me all you want AMD haters!)
My second system is an FX8350 with 8GB RAM, and a GTX 580... (YES, 580!! I still have a working one from the day I bought it when it first came out!) I also have an R9 270 that I'm thinking about throwing in there to make it a full RED machine.

Should I or should I not sell off my R9 290 in the first system and get the GTX 980? I will have a 2 monitor setup for it at the time being (1080p 144Hz 1ms monitors), and eventually down the road I want 3 monitors once I save up for it. Which is the better option? R9 290 has 4GB GDDR5 and 512-bit bandwidth, the GTX 980 only has half the bandwidth at 256-bit. I know NVIDIA has always been more optimized for games (which is what I tend to use my GPU for the most), but how about triple monitors? NVIDIA surround or AMD Eyefinity?

Decisions decisions! Also, I probably won't be able to sell my R9 290 for too much to compensate for the price of the GTX 980... right? Hard decisions when you're low on funds!

If your PSU and supporting elements can support the GTX 980 then go for it.

(As a side note the faster your CPU overclock is the better GPU performance you'll get)

Alternatively if you're low on funds the GTX 970 SC and GTX 970 FTW are also very good. From the reviews I've seen these cards can almost keep up with the GTX 780ti.

I thought the 780Ti beats the 980 hands down? Which explains the higher price for them I guess?

I'm using a Corsair CX750 on my primary rig, no power issues for me. I can OC my 3770K to about 4.5GHz before running into overheating problems on my H80i.

If you have chance pay attention on EVGA GTX980 SC ACX 2.0.
Card is fabric overclocked and you don't need to touch at all.
Only to enjoy in 140-150MHz faster card than reference GTX980 without OC software.
Performance of reference GTX980 are I think same as GTX780Ti Classified, fabric overclocked GTX780Ti.
That mean SC version is probably faster than K|NGP|N Classified and have more video memory, some improvement with filters compatible at the moment only with Maxwell and DX12 ready card. I recommend if you buy to play again some of newer games on highest settings where GTX580 even GTX580 SLI is too weak.
You can replace than FX8350 with R9-290 and i7-3770K with GTX980.
Intel/NVIDIA Combination will be better from performance and power consumption side who knows how many percent.

The GTX 980's are about 10% faster then the GTX 780Ti's at stock clocks. Overclock the GTX 980 and it goes up from there:

You are not alone, I'm still rock'n my SLI GTX480's SC's....!!!! Can't seem to kill them.... LoL.... But the GTX 980 is the card I've been waiting for, ~150% faster then what I have and uses way less power..... My GTX480's have been under water since day one and maybe see 50*C on a bad day.... So a single GTX980 under water would be "COOL".....

I was referring to the GTX 970 reviews versus the 780ti

Can't wait to see some sli reviews out in the wild. Been wanting to replace my 690 but one 980 would be more of a side grade performance wise.

No kidding, but I just grabbed the non-sc edition as it was all that was left. I'll just overclock it myself hehehe. They appear to be good overclockers as reviews are getting 1300+ on them.

Good to hear the the 980 SC and FTWs are also out, I thought they would bring them out later for more Optimization. The big ones I think to look for would be the 980Ti and 980/970 Classifieds.

I'd rather wait for 980Ti and when Broadwell and Skylake come out before I make a full system upgrade! Just too poor atm lol
