Here's the Ram I want to get for the X99:   Link

Just need to figure out which CPU to get.     ;)

Looks like a good set. :-)

5820k or 5930k. If you really need 8 cores (you don't for gaming) then you could go for the 5960x.

The 5820k has 28 lanes with a max of 3 way sli. The 5930k has 40 lanes and can do 4 way sli.

That 5960x is way too expensive, so let's scratch that off. The 5820k just isn't good enough IMO. So that leaves the 5930k. The 5930k is $499 at Microcenter. Lowest price I could find. Hopefully that CPU will go lower in price for Black Friday, or something.

So my decision for the CPU is the 5930k.     Link

Not sure if you purchased a CPU yet, but Micro Center has the 5930K for $399.  I bought one Sunday.  Here's the link.  It shows out of stock, but that's at my local store, so check your store.

XrayMan actually has another thread advertising that same price, lol.

XrayMan, did you get one from MicroCenter today?

@bdary,

Congrats on your purchase. That X99 Classified must have just went to $299 today. $100 less is great. Can't wait to get mine.    =)

@Zophar,

Microcenter doesn't carry the Corsair Ram I want. So I'll probably get it at Amazon. MC doesn't even carry the Evga X99 Classified. Even the sales guy said he can't believe it. LOL.

Anyway, I just got back from MC about 1/2 hour ago with my new CPU (5930k). Took me about 55 minutes to get there. Took 20 minutes to get a parking space. That place was packed. Then it took 90 minutes waiting in the long line that went around the whole inside of the store. One big circle. It was crazy.

They went fast at my local store.  When I saw the sale I immediately placed my order online.  Micro Center will hold merchandise for up to 7 days, but not this one, they would only hold for 3 days, so hustle down there and picked that puppy up.

Now like the OP just checking for other sales.  I am watching the MSI X99S Xpower AC MB.  I hope they do what EVGA just did.  If it drops that $100 I will get it.

For future reference.  You can place order online and MC will hold the merchandise for you for up to 7 days or maybe even more.  You only pay when you go to pick it up from the pick up desk and you don't have to wait in the regular check out line.

Anyway, glad you got one.

Right on, I was at lunch when I posted that so I didn't get a chance to check if it was available at MC. Glad you got your CPU. I need to run down to my MC and check out the deals on Z87/Z97 boards for something I'm working on for someone. But IDK if I want to deal with line tomorrow. I'm sure it'll still be crazy.

@Zophar,

Would be mostly for gaming. Will be getting the Motherboard through Evga, because I have Evga bucks that will really help. I'm reading reviews on both boards, which should also help me reach a decision.

I figured you'd get it from EVGA, I was just using the Microcenter stuff for a reference. If you have the bucks to get the X99 stuff then go for it. The CPU's are similar prices as long as you go 5820K which is perfect for you. But the ram will cost just a bit more depending on what you go with. The one down side is your CPU cooler. I'm not familiar with yours but in the event that it's not compatible with X99 then you would have a little more expense there. The Z170 is still the same spacing as 1150/1155 if I recall so I'd think you be fine there.

Well I've had it for years, and I guess I've grown attached to it, or accustomed to it. Whichever. Love the cooler. Has done well for me over the years. What cooler do you suggest that can have a fan on both sides of it? I only do air.

EDIT: Ok, thanks for the suggestion. I'll check it out.

EDIT#2: Some reviews say it's big, and heavy. Have to be careful on side mounted towers like mine.

And those massive coolers could have RAM clearance issues.

I don't think gaming would require that much. I have had 6GB&12GB on my X-58 board didn't see that much Difference. But I don't do much more than game, If I need the extra memory the slots will be there. Would rather save money for the next GPU coming out next year, also for the X99 Dark if its a Good Board.

Regarding the Ram, that sounds good in your case.

I will do a step up if the Dark comes out after I buy the regular classy.

Have a question about the motherboard. When installing the Ram sticks, would I put the four sticks all on one side of the CPU? (Slots 1-2-3-4  or  slots 1-3-5-7)? two on each side of the CPU?

You are 100% sure about that? I just want to make sure I do it right when I get the board.

It say's you must populate an odd slot first. It doesn't say you can only use odd slots. See what I'm saying? It should have been specified or explained better in the manual.

Next thing. The two 8-pin power connectors on the board. It's for extra power. Would it be ok to use them for just regular use? Default settings. They were designed for overclocking I presume?
