I bit the bullet and after much research and frustration went with the HR-02 Macho.

Came in lots of bubblewrap for entertainment later !

That annoying moment when you realize the hole in the back of your case is in the wrong spot and you have to remove your motherboard to fit it.

Some goodies, instructions in various languages etc. packaging overall was very good.

The BEAST.   Ahem, sorry.  the Thermalright Macho HR-02. Compared to my old Coolermaster TX3. bear in mind the tx3 has it's legs still attached.  This thing is HUGE!

The photos I took of the assembly of the backplate didn't turn out for some reason, but it was
all very straightforward.  You simply put the screws through the correct hole, add washers, place it on
your desk, put your motherboard on top, screw in the spacers and top bracket and your done.
Instructions are relatively easy to follow.
The hardest part of the installation is the screw for the holding bracket.  It actually screws in through the hole you see in the top of the heatsink, so you need a 7inch screwdriver to do it.

Some pics of it mounted on my Asus P8P-67 Pro

Motherboard re-installed and fan mounted

Remarks:
1. This thing is HUGE!
2. installation was relatively quick and painless, no great dramas or overly complicated contraptions are used to attach it, so it goes on quite easily.
3. It's very heavy at almost 1kg. does tend to make your pc a little top heavy!
4. So far, after only 1 hour and with AS5 that needs to be burnt in, it's running around 5 degrees cooler.
idling in the mid-high 20's.

I'm about to fire up some folding for a bit of a heat test and see what it does under load.

    Including the fan it's 165high x 140 wide x 122deep
and weighs in at exactly 1kg including the fan

I was literally holding my breath putting the side panel back on, just fit with
    about 2mm to spare.
You need a big case to comfortably fit this thing.

you could also try turning top fan that is above ram, that way you will get colder fresh air right in front of cpu cooler...

That is one big cooler! You'll have to update with the temps when the AS5 finally cures. It's already an improvement though!

Yeah, the TX3 uses a high speed fan, so can have closer spacing between the fins; the bad in that is of course LOTS of noise!

This one has much larger spacing so the low speed fan works just as well (actually better) and it's completely inaudible!

WOW, thats a cute little motherboard attached to your cooler! Nice temps.

    lol
It was originally designed to be a passive (fanless) heatsink, hence the sheer size.
They did a bit of a re-design, added the fan, cut the price by 50% (US$40 supposedly -$59 in Australia) and re-named it
the HR-02 Macho. Macho it certainly is!

    That's a full ATX board - 12 inch x 9.6 inch ( 30.5 cm x 24.4 cm ) and it makes it look small!

Nice pics.  The Macho HR-02 looks very impressive.  It's about time Thermalright released a kickass cooler in the low/mid price range.  Cooler Master and Scythe were dominating this market for too long I guess.

For the price - especially if you can get for $40 bucks and you can fit it in your case, I don't think it can be beaten by
    any other air-cooler.

I looked at the Archon but it was just too tall at 170mm & the Silver Arrow but I don't like the dual fan set-up on that one, plus both of those are double the price.

Nothing else comes close in performance to price ratio.
Plus it just looks awesome in the case!

I like the Silver Arrow for it's triple fan compatibility, with 120mm x 38mm or 140mm x 38mm fans.  I'm gonna have to save up/wait for that one (one fit with my GPU VRM cooler).  You're right though, the Macho HR-02 is a win.

    Thought I replied to this,
I have two 120mm in the bottom of the case drawing air in, plus another at the front and side,
so I use the two top 140's as exhausts to draw that cool air up over the cooler.

I've also found that having top fans as intake seems to suck in a lot more dust

Not that I don't believe that your temps are that low...  I just dont trust ASUS software at all.  Their software showed that I was running a lot cooler than Realtemp and Coretemp (all run seperately,  not all together)...  Then it said i was running hotter.  Both Realtemp and Coretemp were dead on with each other, and the ASUS program was all over the place.  .  Just something to keep in mind for the safety of your processor.
