Out of these three what is best?  The one all the way to the right, I have used before, but the other two I have not.  I am thinking the Arctic Silver is the best, but I am not sure.  I bought the other two today.

    LOL Falcon.

IIRC, that AS isn't for the same application as the other two TIMs.

So if I asked you to go install a new cpu in your rig right now, you would grab the IC Diamond off the desk and not look back?

I went through an entire tube of it, which was about half a dozen reapplies. I never had an issue with it EXCEPT for the fact that it is a major PITA to clean off then redoing the TIM.

I say Arctic Silver 5 (not the arctic silver you have pictured) and be done with it unless you really care about a potential 2-3*C difference.

I allready did....   2 different systems...

I would add that I found out when using the ICD ,  it is so thick due to the diamond dust helping keep it from thermal breakdown, that I would recommend heating a coffee cup with water for about 2 mins , then putting the ICD tube (top up) into the hot water for a couple mins. to soften it.
That really helped make a far easier job of application/ making sure to use the pea-sized center drop method *& allowing natural compression of the heatsink to uniformly press it down ( spreading by hand just introduces air bubbles, sometimes bad enough to make heat worse )

The pea size method scars me.  I feel like I don't know if it is spread right or not.  I always do the spread by hand method.  I will try the pea size method this time.

ICD blows Arctic Silver and Antec thermal pastes outta the water.

Downside of it is how hard it is to apply because of its thickness and the potential to scratch your CPU or heatsink surfaces...

I use MX-2 for the CPU, Arctic Alumina for chips. MX-2 is non-conductive compared to the Arctic Silver 5, and it costs half of what the MX-4 does a bottle. The difference between good and the best paste is 1 or 2 degrees so I buy cheaper paste. An 8 gr bottle of MX-2 lasts a longer than non-silver solutions like Zalman's ZM-STG1, and it puts a thicker layer that performs better too. There's no need to go all out on thermal paste, just get a 30 gr bottle of MX-2 and that'll last you for months.

Oh yeah! Shin-Etsu is what ATi uses on their GPUs to get down to even lower temps. It had something to do with the layer between the core and the cooler, that's why they only agree with using that specific paste. All of their recent high-end cards came with it applied from the factory. Also, you can only re-apply the paste with Shin-Etsu again to keep your guarantee. It sounds dumb but that paste has a special formula for better trasitivity on ATi cards.

noobs... shin etsu x23 is used on nvidia gpus as well.

x23 is great for GPUs because it's a touch more viscous.

the g751 version is easier to use at room temperature and is great for CPUs...

indigo extreme is my number 1 choice for CPUs, followed by Shin Etsu, then IC diamond.

for GPUs, indigo extreme doesn't make a gpu TIM, so I'd go with Shin Etsu X23 first, IC diamond 2nd, and shin etsu g751 third. everything else you're just putzing around.

Calling people noobs eh? How mature of you, not everyone knows everything. Much less I couldn't remember it properly, which is why I messed it up.

We aren't "putzing around". Most people don't want to pay much money to make a 1-5 degrees of difference everytime they re-build their machines. MX-2 works, it's cheap and the bigger tube lasts for long.

Trust me most wouldn't find being called a "noob" funny. Put yourself into my shoes, how would you felt if somebody called you a noob when you were wrong? See? There is no need to call names, especially when you're a grown up.

mwparrish it wasn't meant to be mature... since it was a joke.

Trust me most wouldn't find being called a "noob" funny. Put yourself into my shoes, how would you felt if somebody called you a noob when you were wrong? See? There is no need to call names, especially when you're a grown up.

I disagree. Most folks don't take things that seriously and aren't that uptight in the General Discussion. In the General Hardware, Overclocking, Graphics or Mobo forums, that might be different. Nearly all of the threads in General Discussion involve some degree of banter.

I'm sorry if you were offended though.

Yeah... I took it a little too serious. No offense taken now, thanks for your attitude.
