Dear Mr. Joe Darwin, Did you receive any feedback from your technical development team yet, regarding their review on the option to design a GTX 980 4GB/6GB Mac Edition for Mac Pro 3,1 - 5.1 models? A perfect match for low - on board - power consumption and superb performance, a combo many owners anticipate for! Awaiting your reply with great expectations!

Still no news from the EVGA technical development team on the GTX-980 Mac Edition...

Cheers

This whole "Mac Edition" video cards sounds like a scam.  Same hardware, "Mac Edition" and charge 2x as much.  All the more reason to roll with a PC where you don't have to put up with that.

If anyone is watching this thread from a year ago, there do exist Mac Edition 980s in various flavors. I'm looking for the rom for an EVGA GTX 980 Classified. Any help would be appreciated. Cheers.

Alright guys, let's get the thread back on topic.  This is about a petition for a GTX 980 version to be Mac compatible, not about discussing the merits of Apple Inc. as a business.

MAC is for people that don't want to do anything to their PC, don't want to worry about anything, and never think they will ever have "issues" with their MAC, because it never has issues right??  ... Yet MAC is way easier to hack compared to PC. That is the irony. WHen it comes to maintenance, you pay for it.

Or you could ditch the inferior system....

Inferior for gaming, hell yeah. Inferior in everything else? No.
It's the best UNIX like OS for profit (more stable than any Linux Distro). Better than Windows for Software Development, Web Development, Graphic Design, and basically any kind of video/photo editing.

Re: The wonderful GTX980 as a MAC Edition?? 2016/03/02 04:52:06 (permalink)
For the GTX-680 2/4GB (many models/brands) ROMs are freely available on the net. But for the GTX-980 models there are no freely. MacVidsCards is a guy who knows his business. ALERT: be aware that there are many copycats floating on i.e. Ebay and Amazon. If you don't want any hassle with a flashed card, like not working ports and so on, go for the pro flashing services. Nvidia is still letting us cMP owners use their very powerful GPU, by providing us new web-drivers. KUDO's for Nvidia...

It's a shame that EVGA does not provide the "Mac Edition" GTX for one of the 980 (Ti) series. I'm saving up for a EVGA GTX-980 Ti 6GB (flashed) to replace my EVGA GTX-670-FTW-4GB (non flashed), which I used since 2013 and had NO issues with it at all. The downside is that I still have to use my classic ATI-2600HD for bootscreen and maintenance.

Let hope for better times on the EVGA side of things!!!

EDIT: for the EU region, MacVidCards finally has found a solid new partner-in-crime ;-) named Mac Store UK  You can even buy a GPU yourself and only use their flashing service. This wil save our EU members a lot of money for shipping and taxes from and to the USA.

Cheers

EVGA hasn't released a MAC video card for a while now. I can only assume not enough sales are generated.

They could provide a GTX-980 series Mac Edition as a service product. That'll serve the brand EVGA in a positive way imho. (wishful thinking)

But if it doesn't have the market value to where they will make a profit, then it's not worth it for them to make such an item if loss is greater than gain, not worth it. This is a common practical strategy that smart business owners follow.

GTX 9xx (including Titan X) are supported in the nvidia web driver:  for El Capitan
Just load the driver, pop a PC card into a Mac Pro 2008-2013, reboot and voila. Only thing lost is the Apple boot screen, it's dark until the login screen. Otherwise it works just fine, I've tried it with a 970 out of my PC in a 2008 Pro tower.
Barefeats.com has done plenty of testing, check them out.

Quite a rough ride without boot- and or maintenance screens for me. Thanks, but no thanks!
