I predict there will be a huge price drop on all these problematic cards in the next few weeks. More so than just the normal price drops. these cards are going to have to go if people start holding off or backing out.

Myself I really do not think this well happen.
The Price of EVGA Cards are going to stay steady until the new release comes around next year.
But I am hoping that we see a Christmas Sale or Holiday Sale come December.

I won't be.  I replaced my 2 EVGA GeForce GTX 980 Superclocked ACX 2.0's (04G-P4-2983-KR, bought late 2014) in my X99 system (on which I stopped most gaming about a year ago so I have been wasting QUITE a bit of $$ since these 2 980's are now beside my 2 480 GTX's gathering dust ) with an EVGA GeForce GTX 1080 FTW GAMING ACX 3.0 (08G-P4-6286-KR) ordered on 08/23, shipped 08/31, received about a week later.  After reading about the BS/heating/whatever issues AFTER pulling the plug on the order I was worried BUT for the first time in my long life (57 years old ) I must have won the silicon crap-shoot as I tested my card with hours and hours of different benchmarking programs (and the Doom demo LOL) with eVga Precision K-boost on with 2025 Mhz clock and watching usage/mem/temps/fan on my Logitech LCD color keyboard display the card just crushed the benchmarks and occasionally I would hear the fans speed up (at 70C using default fan profile).  That's where it would idle when taxed the most and then would just cool down and quiet right down.

I just don't want to mess up a good thing.  I just need to get something like No Mans Sky (  ) and really game.  I used to play tribes/tribes2/BF1942/planetside on different teams/clans but cannot get interested again so my card is currently used for me to check email, news, these forums, etc... on my Windows 10 x64 fast-ring preview (yes-I like Win7 eye candy MUCH better but what the heck!) system.  I'm "a-scared" to change anything.

Re: The only one who won't put the pads ? 2016/11/04 13:53:51 (permalink)
Im on my third card, 1070sc. Previous 2 were not overclocked and died and had to be RMA'd.

There is no reason not to apply the pads. You're only asking to try and validate what you want to hear, which is not doing anything. You've already made your mind up. Thats fine, but in the long run you might end up annoyed that you didnt spend 5mins putting thermal pads on when you have to RMA the card.

The people who are posting stuff about how their GPU temp is whatever is not relevant to the temps that the VRM is getting, which isnt monitored in any program.

So yeah, put your fingers in your ears and go ahead and do nothing about it. "Everything is within spec" etc etc. Thats what you wanted to hear right?

You should take a look at this video which explains the situation: youtube.com/watch?v=QCuEUqHj_cU

That sir/madam is because I know the "power of 2" as you can see by my previous ignorant buying record.  After all one of my first real builds as a Pentium 4 dual CPU (133 screaming MHz) server motherboard with the newly released MS NT4 I loaded and then hosed when I installed NT4 SP2 on it!  I also would like to mention that I use the power of 2 in my personal life as I have 2 ex-wives too (3 times a charm, right???).  I will now stop my thread-hijacking in here by no longer posting in this thread and hopefully prevent angry people here from PM'ing me or posting about me and shaming me into a corner that have real issues.  My power of 2 last words: Peace out!

I will update the bios.

Question: Fan curves on new BIOS are different than the Aggressive one on the previous ones?

Same question.

Reviews by users say that this update has increased the speed fan at 300 RPM. Anyone confirm this?

So I will not put pads I think , I ordered them I will see whats happen but for the moment there isnt really a problem...

ONE picture from someone who  had a problem... only one f***** picture that's all !

I made my own agressive curve fan, 53 degres with GTA and BF1, I cant believe that my VRM (or VRAM I never know :D ) are in dangerous temperatures with a 53 degres GPU...

I will not be putting them on my 1080 FTW. I use a custom fan curve in Afterburner for my gaming, and am comfortable with the temps I am getting. I am not too concerned about it.

I won't be flashing the new bios either. My card runs pretty cool, certainly cooler than my previous 970 FTW did.

I'm not worried about my card as it is since I always run a fairly aggresive custom fan profile (60C @ 70% fan).  That said, I will install the thermal pads simply because it's free, easy to do, and if I can make things cooler, why not.

I won't be flashing the new vBIOS though.  I don't see it being needed when using my own fan profile.

Am I safe ? There is member here who wont put this  pads ?

the 1070/1060 have much lower power consumption i dont see any problem here, if i would highly overclock them, i would make my thoughts applying them. on the 1080 i would apply them, OC or not, just to be save.

So, we agree that no overclocking (I'm cpu limited so I wont overclock lol ) and an agressive fan curve and I'm fine without pads ?

Because others people here said I'm blind or ignorant...

That's exactly what i have been doing. As long you keep an aggressive fan curve and avoid furmark you should be good. Gamers Nexus tested with only the vBios update (which IMO you should install) and it already gives some improvements:

http://www.gamersnexus.net/news-pc/2666-evga-heat-solution-thermal-imaging-of-vrm-1080-ftw

I ran an even more aggressive fan curve and my case has good airflow (Corsair 780T) so i expect to be getting sightly better results with VRM temps. If you are like me who uses headset and don't mind the additional noise, ramp up the fan speed a little more.

HOWEVER, i recommend getting the thermal pads anyway because its free and it's easy to install, it's not any harder than building your own computer or changing a CPU cooler, seriously. But even if you don't install them you should be fine, remember EVGA got your back with your 3 year warranty, should anything happen just call them.

Another thing...

Imagine someone who pull all the pads... but who overclocks like a pig, at the maximum of the card, if he also use a "too much silent" curve... he will have the same temperatures than me with no pads ?

If you guys don't want to put pads on you can just RMA the card and they will do this for you. Personally I would get the pads on just for prevent future issues and help with resale in the future.

Just don't know why you wouldn't as i'm sure EVGA will provide a shipping label. Personally I'm in the process of doing that with my new card that I got with no pads.

If I do that, I wont have a new card, I ve got mine since 40 days so it will be a refurbished...

Dont want that and I dont think I need it in fact... because of what I'm doing with the card and in which conditions I do it...
