Haven't owned an EVGA motherboard since x58.  With Asus, you disable speedstep and C states and set memory to XMP and overclocked to Turbo frequency automatically.  Anything higher and you have to insert multipliers in the bios.  I did the same with the FTW K and works fine.  Typed in 39 to get the overclock started.  Followed Jacob's guide for voltage offset and it is seemingly holding OK.  No complaining right now.  This is a decent board. All rear panel USB 3.0 ports are Intel, while 3.1 is Asmedia.  On the X99-A there was only ONE Intel port 3.0 in the rear...and the rest were Asmedia.  Big benefit with Intel 3.0 over Asmedia.  Idle temps on the CPU are around 35C, which is slightly higher than they were with X99, but still all within safe range.  Will wait and see what the new X299 chipset boards and processors look like...by end of the year.  X99 still has life in it...

EVGA X99 FTW-K is nice motherboard.
Look me somehow durable and reliable.

i7-5820K could be find now and for 250-280$ probably and it's nice investment, after overclocking to 4.0-4.2GHz is comparable with newest i7-6850K but cost almost half price.

One further question.

I noticed that when I remove a USB flash drive, by clicking in the taskbar, that my C Drive and D Drives are also listed as removable. Is it because I installed the Samsung 840 Pro on SATA 0 and Toshiba 4 TB HDD on SATA 1?  I noticed in the manual that I probably should have installed on SATA 6 and 7.  The drives perform normally, so not obsessing...but I am very careful removing devices through the taskbar app.

Thanks

If you go into the BIOS > "Advanced" tab > "SATA" Config > disable all your active drives.  They're most likely all enabled by default.

Re: Very disappointed in X99 FTW K 2017/01/26 17:40:14 (permalink)
I have one more question.  Seems that my GPU, which wouldn't exceed 66-67C with my other motherboard (Asus X99-A) is now hitting 70C.  I did the thermal pads and MX-4 and the temps lowered, and now back to where they were.  It is not the motherboard or PCIe slot.  I believe my 200 mm case fans are NOT running at full speed.  They both have three pin connectors and are running, but I cannot monitor how fast.  On the Asus...there were three pin connectors and I was able to run the fans at 100% all the time (600rpm).  If they are running slow, then my air input is cut down considerably.  It there a way to guarantee that they run full speed?  I have them set to MAX in the bios...

Thanks

Never mind.  All my fan speeds register in the bios, except 1.  One of my 200mm fans is dying.  E-Leet picks it up as 200 rpm vs the MAX I have it set for.  The other 200 mm set to max runs at 575.  Have to replace one of the fans...
