Nice, please post some WU/time with those Opterons, interested how well they do. I could upgrade to 63xx. The 62xx prices are way down on ebay. I'm still using 6172 on my AMD boards.

Maybe you are setting your time to long, I set mine at 0.03 and 0.01 going through all the different BOINC Projects to get a feel for what they can do and what my computer can handle. For a Challenge I use 1.0 and 1.0

Yeah, I had a friend update my server, Let him use it for a couple of weeks waiting for the new CPU's to come in. Got his points up nicely for him. He is great with software, I am great with hardware. So we work well together. With 48 cores, going to be finished in about 3hrs.... Unfortunately I will be in bed by then,,, Switzerland timezone here.... Playtime in the morning...

so for SGS LLR I get about 2hrs, which seems a long time. On PPS Mega LLR I get about 7hrs. Does that look right??

As far as looking right, each rig can run at different times it is all based on the CPU Type.

I can look up some times on my Xeon E5-2670 for comparison, if that helps. I do have those for WCG projects anyway. Be careful if you try WCG's Clean Energy Project, it is very disk-intensive and uses a lot of memory as well, so you probably don't want to run more than a handful at a time.

Thanks Punchy, That would be awesome, and much appreciated. OutsmartEbola is 2.20hrs OpenZika is 2.35hrs. I have 128Gb of RAM, and 100Gb of free disk space, so do not see any issues there. Thanks for the tip. Edited times, seems more stable now timewise.....

Seems like a long time. SGS LLR 18 minutes on my e5-2670 Sandybridge at 3ghz SGS 34 minutes X5650 stock (2.8ghz I think) no AVX SGS 54 minutes 2P Opteron 6172 stock speed 54 minutes PPS-mega 5-3570 Ivybridge stock speed 92 minutes PPS mega i7-3930K 75 minutes 4.2ghz But doing 48 at a time kinda makes up for the slower speed. Also shows it is true AMD did not incorporate AVX properly. Shoud be great at WCG and getting badges

Yeah, AMD have done something wrong, These are AVX 1.1 instructions maximum for the cpu's... best I can do in this server.. Better than nothing...

I am starting to think, As these are HP Servers. Are they doing something strange with internal the configuration. They were not built to crunch, they were built for data. Will look more into this and see if I can find something to support that idea..

The thing is with AMD the 61xx series are faster crunching core to core VS the newer 62xx and 63xx CPUs. From what I understand the newer CPUs have kinda, sorta, kinda, have HT enabled. I'll have to search the exact terms, two cores use one "something or other" where as the 61xx had one "Something or other" per core. That"s why the 61xx are faster, you need 12 62xx cores to equal 8 61xx cores Look in the BIOS for "fast" or performance computing setting and make sure it is on or set to performance. There is a way to do some overclocking on 62xx and 63xx CPU Opteron servers.

Just picked up a HP DL580 G7 server yesterday. Has 4x CPU's and 128Gb of ram, 32Gb per CPU. Currently has E-7540's installed. 6 Cores @ 2.0Ghz. Turned HT off for now. With the Xeon @ 2.0Ghz compaired to the AMD @ 2.6Ghz, The Xeon is faster on all tasks so far.. Just ordered 4x E7-4870's. 2.4Ghz with 10 Cores each. Looking forward to these being installed next week.
