There is much to be upset here, but the timing of it two weeks before an election is suspect. Why was this not published right after each event? I do not donate to the Red Cross, as I have read other articles over the years of very similar things. I would donate blood to the Red Cross exclusively, but now I do the local blood bank that is not supported by them. My company had a well run Foundation until they hired a Red Cross veteran that is running it into the ground. Another reason for me to not like the organization. This guy has no clue, as it seems he thinks things will just come to him. He does nothing to make the connections necessary to assure a Foundation's future. For 15 years we built it up and in two years he has almost torn it apart, as it has about two years left based on what he is doing now. Best thing is he'll be unemployed, but the money we raise to help the community is being wasted. So sad and just another example of ineptitude at the Red Cross.

If you think that's bad. The United Way employees will take any food or clothing donations they want. I have read about people leaving private sector to go work for big charities to make more money.

For me I stopped believing in charities in America years ago.

There are some misconceptions in that article. Disaster management has a hierarchy. Red Cross simply doesn't just wander around aimlessly. Everything has a mission assignment and tasking from a base of operations ran by Federal or State authorities. For insurance and liability reasons, you'll not see any civilian aide group taking initiative without Federal or State direction. If Red Cross was doing something in a disaster area, it had mission assignments by a government entity.

Ya same here. I stopped donating to charities. EXCEPT the two; The Wounded Warrior Project, and Salvation Army. At least those two charities give AT LEAST 90% of their earnings to the cause. Last time I checked the Salvation Army gave 94% and Wounded Warrior Project gave 98%. O ya I did make a thread about the 50 worst charities to give too. But here is the link to the article in that thread if you wanted to read it.

Now for what the Red Cross did there makes me mad as well Kram. I actually trusted them too and I gave money to them. Well never again will I.

I donate to "Operation Kindness"  It is a no kill shelter for dogs and cats in the Dallas area.  They are NOT city sanctioned...it is a private concern and they keep the furbabies for as long as it takes to get them adopted out.  They are very kind and do great work.  I have actually adopted twice from there (both dogs).  I help those who really cannot help themselves.

I remember stories from both my father & father - in - law (both WW2 veterans) about the Red Cross . They were selling the donated items to the troops that were donated instead of giving them . The Salvation Army was giving them away as it was suppose to be . I don't give to them either .
